Below is a copy of one of my posts of the EVO Forum. It's made up of quotes from here and from there.

Is there any response from SCL to these points?

Lets also not forget, Supercar Lifestyle were telling people who phoned up that there were only 30 runners up. Here's that and some other stuff from the PistonHeads thread -

"Called them up to claim my prize and was told that the original competion was just for the main prize but as there were over 3,500 entries EVO had asked for Supercar Lifestyle to add some runners up events.

Apparantly there are 30 runners up and I was offered a choice of 6 dates - so presumably five people per day?"

"They claimed Evo asked them to add the runner up prizes, and Evo were fully aware and in agreement of the fee. He also claimed that the membership to their 'lifestyle club' was included as part of the prize (i.e. it was free and we are only paying for insurance/damage waiver), whereas I was told on the phone that this was part of the fee."

"I spoke to some of their guys at a shopping centre over christmas (they were doing special offers before christmas) anyway after having a chat with them I asked about the insurance waiver as I know all of these days have them and was told it was £50 and that would cover you for the whole day no matter how many cars you drive, so where this £199 comes from I have no idea."

All we were simply trying to do is offer race tuition which we paid for, on the understanding that the client covered the cost of the insurance. There was no intention of depict, scam or otherwise.

I hope this goes some way to restoring faith back into Supercar Lifestyle and Evo Magazine.

The same product (driving tuition) on the SCL website mentions no necessary insurance.

This is a copy of all the text on the SCL T&Cs page linked to from the Driving Tuition Page (£89 per hour)

Mccrae: Jon, You have underestimated the PH collective's ability to search for clues. It doesn't help when you say things like, "my company does race tuition could soon have you in one " on other PH threads...

You either have a financial stake in it or you don't. You have openly said it's your company and then said that it isn't when the SHTF. You've clearly done well for yourself before SCL, don't damage your reputation.

I would love to know what you have done to your Ascaris to make them "million pound" Ascaris (as advertised)laugh - it sounds like a keen ploy to make billies think they are driving something more special than it is... sounds like a theme...

Perhaps you should have kept your head down and let the directors of SCL deal with it. I'm sure you will have learnt a lesson from this one!

Update:

Firstly, I'd like to personally apologise to all those caught up in this. I realise this has reflected badly on evo but I can assure you we are investigating this matter. The trouble is, this is taking longer than expected..

The main issue is this problem has been caused by an email sent out by a third party without my knowledge and this is the process currently under review, as are all other third party relationships with evo, the aim being we won't find ourselves in this position again.

Harry
Fair play to Harry - I think he's been caught in the middle and he's come straight out with apologies and an effort to find out what happened.

The belated and grudging "apology" from SCL smacks of insincerity. Surely any competent company would have sent apologies by email to those they had affected?

For what it's worth - I am still waiting for SCL to send me a copy of the insurance policy as I sure as hell wouldn't pay for any form of cover without seeing what was covered and excesses etc. If it's a genuine offer surely they would have the documentation to hand?

Anyway, they won't be getting my £199 which will be put towards a tank of petrol and a track day instead smile

Let me get this right, people pay a couple of hundred quid for something like that?!
I have more fun driving to work every day, that looked boring TBH

I did a single seater drive at Silverstone before Christmas, cost me £85 iirc and I paid £10 extra for the insurance waiver and I got a full 40 mins of driving, ok it is only a 1.6l but in a car that is so light it was fast and a proper racing car, I would rather put my money back into that or a trackday in my own car, MIRA does not look that good (not £199 good anyway)

Great thread.

SCL have been caught with their pants down and their knobs on fire, they're bang to rights and fully deserve this thread exposure.

They did some bean counting, concocted a package and presented it in a devious way.

Timeshare sales were like this - "Congratulations - You've won! Just need to pay for post, packing and insurance, £49 please"

That £199 is 100% NOT for insurance, it pays them for the day, it's part of their profit.

"4 hours of tuition" FOUR HOURS? What for? For 3 laps in an old Beemer? That's called 'value padding' adding nothing, charging lots.

12 months 'Supercar Lifestyle Membership'. More worthless padding.

This is NOT a prize, it's marketing, in its lowest form.

Awful way to promote your business SCL.

Matthew

I've trimmed your comment a little as while the apology is welcomed, we'd rather you announced details to the Evo winners through the email database you obviously have. Direct contact would be best to avoid this becoming the public platform for the matter.

I've also taken away the image and some other info as we don't allow promotions on the forums.

Appreciate the clarification however, thank you for that.
So interestingly I saw the original post put up by Matthew before it was (understandably) trimmed. As yet I've not seen any email confirmation of the "offer" that was being suggested.... I presume no one else has either?

Just read through this entire thread, as someone not directly affected by said offer, I now would NEVER suggest anyone go to such a company as SCL (Supercarlifestyle, Super car lifestyle, SuperCarLifestyle)

This has been handled awfully, not especially by mccrae, the apparent co-owner of SCL (Supercarlifestyle, Super car lifestyle, SuperCarLifestyle) . Its not so much that it was handled poorly just once, its that it has continued to be handled poorly and has still not be rectified to an acceptable standard or manner(by the looks of it).

Shocking.

P.s may i suggest that the thread title is changed to something relevant to the company name so that it is ranked correctly on google ensuring that less people are duped into such a scheme

I first heard of Supercar Life style when I won a similar track day event. I had a fantastic day driving many super cars including a Ferrari, Lamborghini, GTR, Porche

Since then I have become a member & have been for over a year. I have been on an amazing holiday to Spain at the Circuito Guandix including two days of driving many similar super cars. With many other petrol heads.

I having now been having tuition with amongst other instructors Ian Ashley who is the best instructor of them all & I would highly recommend having tuition with him as I have learnt so much. Including learning heel & toeing & left foot braking.

Because my driving improved so much last year the owner John gave me the chance to drive his own full blown race prepared Ascari at no expense to me but great risk to him. Which was awesome & I couldn't stop grining from ear to ear.

I was also given the chance to drive my own Skyline round their track at no expense to me with Ian Ashley.

This year I'm hoping to take the MSA qualification & maybe become an instructor or join a TVR racing team.

Give these guys a chance I thoroughly recommend them.
