Things other road users do that drive you crazy!

People inching over the white line at a set of traffic lights. Lights turn red and said car stops behind the line. Whilst the lights are still red, said car keeps creeping forwards such that half and in some cases the entirety of the car ends up past the white line before the lights have even turned green. Really, how much time does that small advantage shave off your journey?
and these drivers always end up being really slow to react to the lights when they do change, and STILL slow to pull away when they finally notice WD39 said:
What a good thread this is becoming.

People who block yellow boxes. They're so crap at reading the road ahead ( even if in a slow moving queue) that they just mindlessly follow the vehicle in front and end up blocking the box/junction.
tts!
People who change lanes in a box junction so while you'd perfectly judged your approach and the available space on the other side you're now left blocking it. And the other car will inevitably not get caught on the camera.tts!
I'm talking about a two lane road, crossing a box junction.
My lane has space ahead which I'm crossing the box junction to occupy, when someone in the right lane which did not have space past the box realises there might be a camera and cuts me up to take the space in my lane leaving me in the box.
People who are turning right at green traffic lights with a single filter arrow that isn't lit. They think they can't go until the filter arrow lights up, and so sit there even when no traffic is approaching. This is becoming endemic, and I've taken to blasting such people with the horn because it's so bloody thick and stupid.
Sort of related, insofar as it's the same sort of thick people who do it, is people who turn left at green lights, then abruptly stop at the red 'repeater' light that is aimed at the traffic that is now behind them. So dangerous because people rounding the corner aren't expecting some halfwit to be stopped immediately round the corner. Unfortunately you can blast these people with the horn as much as you like, they take no notice because they are convinced they are right.
How do these types of people get through their driving tests? Surely you'd fail for this cretinous behaviour.

I hate it when I'm on the motorway in lane one, with a slower vehicle approaching, and the car in lane two, with a free lane three, continues to pass me at the speed of a glacier, forcing me to slow down and wait until they've passed. It's very easy, with a bit of anticipation, to just move out into lane three so that I can seamlessly move into lane two and nobody has to slow down. If people are so intent on staying in lane two, at least put your foot down and get out of the way!
I appreciate people don't have to do this, but it's just common courtesy.

I was reminded of another one today.
Slow people who change lanes to have a "front row" start on the TL GP. Especially round here with the 40mph dual carriageways that aren't very crowded.
I totally understand wanting to start from pole and beating everyone off the lights.
What I don't get is people who change lanes and then drive *slower* than the lane they changed out of. I mean WTF?
I despise these. Make no effort to pass the car next to them half the time. I saw a 116d pull next to a M5 on the A556 (got it on video), I'm sure they don't have a clue what some cars actually are. I get it fairly often in the ST, usually Juke or QashqaiSlow people who change lanes to have a "front row" start on the TL GP. They're probably getting in the correct lane for the junction 3 miles ahead.
Another pain. The A556 is a nightmare for this. M6 roundabout towards Northwich, people stay in the right lane to turn 4 miles later. Edited by Lgfst on Sunday 2nd October 17:58

Isn't it up to the slower car merging to match the speed of the traffic already on the motorway? Actually that could well be another thing that drives me crazy!chriscoates said:

Really? this is the most annoying thing you could come up with?I appreciate people don't have to do this, but it's just common courtesy.

I think you've misunderstood my post - I didn't mean merging onto a motorway, I meant already being on the motorway and approaching a slow vehicle in lane one.
Ah gotcha. It was your use of "with a slower vehicle approaching", when you meant 'approaching a slower vehicle' that got me! (I've probably got that wrong as well).chriscoates said:

Actually that could well be another thing that drives me crazy! The car in lane two should have realised that if everybody maintained their current speed, you would be crashing into the car in front of you in lane one - at the same time as he would be passing in lane two.
Therefore.. with anticipation AND an empty lane to his right, he should have indicated and moved over to give both of you the space to proceed unhindered.
THAT, is what I do anyway.
I also try to anticipate the MLM and overtaking lane hoggers stupidity when I am in your position and indicate extra early, to give them an advance chance to act/wake-up.

It would be nice, but the car in lane two doesn't HAVE to move anywhere. Really the OP should have either timed his approach better and pulled into the second lane when a merge point became available...or just braked! It's a recurring theme on here - the blending of assumed courtesy, manners and perceived road sense into seemingly the by-the-book thing to do...when actually it's not.The car in lane two should have realised that if everybody maintained their current speed, you would be crashing into the car in front of you in lane one - at the same time as he would be passing in lane two.

I know you said you'd do it anyway, very decent of you.
