Best fess up to my recent bargain purchase - twas this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/rover-45-v6/12315492232...

Totally blind purchase - all I had from the seller was the reg number so I could at least check the MoT. Pressed Buy It Now, paid the deposit, seller sent me photos, I collected on Monday. Great seller, honest and open - it's a cheap snotter to serve as a wafty barge on my monthly 250 mile round trip to my parents' home.

Total barg - few minor issues to sort, but £250 for a very rare top spec 2 litre V6 auto Rover 45 ? What could possibly go wrong...

I have my own mechanic who would gets those parts fitted for not much. With only around 3K miles done in 12 months it should get through the mot so I wonder why the owner hasn’t done that.

My own E46 is up for sale - being mot’d in the morning - so even if it fails I will know that it will cost to get sorted.

Saying that I would be tempted at around £400.00.
Where is your E46 for sale?
It was on PH.

Will be re-advertised tomorrow once I get the result of the mot.

Thanks. What sort of price will it be advertised as?

The 2l kv6 wasnt as strong as the 2.5, but still a good engine. Very smooth.
Is it connoisseur spec? You'll be glad to hear you'll probably get a good chunk of your £250 back selling that leather interior alone...

I will PM you over the weekend as we all know how pissy PH gets if you promote your own advert.

Yup Connie spec. I mentioned a few 'issues' with my bargain buy and missing rear seat cushions is one of them (long story from the seller on why, completely understandable - and no, no murders took place).

Not looking to sell though.

Thanks. I know what PH is like so was just after a ballpark figure. smile

£325 of half-prepped rally car. Should make a good replacement for the £200 micra rally snotter.

Brings my total number of cars currently owned to 7, costing a grand total of £3000.. silly

Also, the £550 accord tourer diesel I bought two weeks ago is doing me proud for now, 51mpg average over 300 miles, not too shabby.
£325????? Blimey!!!!!

So got the cheap clio 182 into a renault sport specialist today for a check over !

Oil leak from the rocker cover gasket however it's a floating cam so get into the rocker cover and bang i need to do the cambelt again.

Auxilary belt and dephaser belt need replacing yet the cam belt seems new !

Rear shocks are leaking

And things like arb bushes , lower arms , steering rack bushes need replacing as there old and perished

And more injectors as it's still misfiring .

Think the estimate was about £1200 to get it all sorted , so not sure how much i really want to spend on it when i've got my puma on the drive 100% working and all it needs is decent pads /tyres and it's ready for the track .

Sorry to hear that, I've been there myself with cars, most recently my BMW which has swallowed a 4 figure sum in as many years!!!

I never take BB's to specialists, they will always find work. Run it for a few months then sell it on.

Good news is the guy said i'd probably get 900-1000 for it as it is which would only leave me £200 out of pocket.

So i'm currently at the tipping point , and i'm not sure it's worth ending up costing £2500 for a car which is not that different to my puma .

Or i could just carry on using it until something happens but obviously wouldn't be able to track it .

I would use it. I don't usually change the cbrlts on my BBS, I did once and the HG went a few months later. I would use for a few months then see how you feel. BBS aren't perfect so they will always be jobs to do, it is just balancing it up.

I shall get it round a mate's and get it on his ramp at the weekend so we can see where the leak's coming from - I topped it up last week and the light hasn't come back on yet so hopefully it's not too serious.
A leaking brake system not serious?

fk me!!
Garage couldn't find a leak anywhere... Might just have dropped due to pad wear. I'll keep an eye on it but if they're happy, I'm happy.

Just picked up a A4 B5 1.8t quattro, 250k miles for 400quid. 4 months mot. Pretty Solid.

Unfortunately exhaust started blowing on drive back and a few other faults I hope to sort out.

Been offered a 2007 Saab 9-3 sport wagon, possibly for free. It's a silver 2 litre turbo automatic with full leather and I quite fancy it, Being an estate it would be useful for carrying a mountain bike around over the summer. Its been parked up for a while, but looks to be in good nick, and has 7 months mot and a months (non transferrable) tax remaining. Done 100k miles and will need a front windscreen. Quite fancy a turbo petrol again ... what motor does it have? I know I shouldn't but ... whats the catch?

It's a GM Ecotec LK9, also used in the 2.0T Vectra/Signum and not much else.

If it's the 2 litre petrol turbo it can be remapped to about 230bhp with no hardware modification needed. Costs a couple hundred quid.
