But even if you rent the cheapest option and take the badges off and add an M Sport plastic trim you still have the problem that the most expensive version of this car is less than half the price of the most expensive Range Rover and a third the price of a Bentayga so you’re going to look like you subsist on benefits and are on your way to a food bank.
Luckily, most of the target market don't have the multiple chips on their shoulders that your post suggests you have wink

Hmm. Subtly and nuance is often not appreciated amongst the newly aspirational. wink

So you've just proved my point - 54% of people agree with me about SUV drivers specifically being the most annoying. Seeing as the stats are not given for the other 45% we can't know whether for example just one other type of car makes up that whole 46%, but its most likely just a spread of other types, which means SUV drivers outweigh the others by quite a lot.

Hence it's not just in "my" mind, it's in the minds of more than half of the motoring public.
The way statistics work though might argue differently....just because 46% vote no, doesn't mean 54% automatically voted yes. Im possible to say without the data.

From my (non-SUV) seat, SUV drivers are far from the most annoying. Prius drivers take that, closely followed by Honda Jazz drivers. EVs come a close second, anything made from a 'new economy' next, then small diesel engined Audi drivers....
Last time I drove an SUV the worst thing about it was the stupid behaviour from people with JimSuperSix’s attitude who were judging me and my driving standard by the body style of my vehicle. Actively moving to prevent the white X5 from changing lanes and parking across its nose when trying to exit a side-road. The same pricks who want to engage in conversation when I’m filling up an M240i, or give a thumbs up if you’re driving an MX5 with the roof open.
People are judgemental tts.

The problem summed up in one post. There’s nothing wrong with the cars, just the people in and around them.

It is interesting and revealing to see how the world really works when you drive different cars on the same roads and how you have to adjust your expections to suit.
I used to have to drive along, and queue at the end of, the clydeside expressway every day on the way home.

At the time I owned an R56 Cooper S, and a slightly beaten up old Shogun.

Every day there'd be people that didn't want to wait in the queue to turn onto the motorway, that would drive down the middle lane to the very end, then stick on an indicator and push in.

Happened most days in the MINI. No-one ever tried it when I was in my Shogun. laugh
When I swapped a BMW 640 for the Alfa last year, the difference in driver attitudes towards me was noticeable.

Where DonkeyApple and I live, I notice no unwelcome behaviour driving the X5. I don't get much attention in the Aston either. In some places, the Aston gets a lot of attention, mostly good-natured. In the fifteen year old Polo, I feel like I'm invisible, which isn't a bad thing.

That’s more a benefit of residing in one of the few remaining pockets of civilisation. That said, it’s nothing like how it was when I was a kid and just learnt to drive. Back then there really was no sign of any form of road user hierarchy. But drop down the hill and this does change quite swiftly.

In my 20s I bought a Pug. 405 diesel as a super cheap runabout. I had no issues locally but as you progressed down the Avenue the aggression and contempt built rapidly as the number of superior car drivers pulled out of side roads or out round parked cars in front of you. Black cabs would try and run you off the road as I was clearly a minicab driver. But on the flip side, I could drive through South London without triggering the local angry people to start venting. I think the most awkward aspect of that car though was when driving through the West End late at night and every drunken tool would suddenly leap out in front of you or try and open the door when at lights thinking I was a moody.

No one seems to take offence at the TVRs either. I’ve had those for 25 years and other road users are very generous towards them.

I drive my wife’s car and I’m back to being treated as road scum.

It was in my thirties that I discovered that old Range Rovers were the perfect London car. Not too big, nor too small. Not expensive or glamorous so didn’t trigger those types. Big enough and old enough that others wouldn’t risk attempting to push you out the way, you could even stop buses at Swiss Cottage from carving over into you. People would let you out and you didn’t have any blind spots for moving promptly through traffic. No one in South London took offence and you could clean it and park anywhere respectable. For years I had £5 parking at the Ritz thanks to the then doormen. And I never curbed a wheel, something I’ve managed to do on every other car.

Can't wait to see one of these on the road. It'll be right in the middle of the lane on the way to my childcare drop-off. I'll be in the hedge to avoid the collision. It won't have noticed I'm even there.

OK ok rant over, bet it's fabulous on the motorway.

This is a great summary.

I see this every day from the "lofty posh perch" in my X5. Despite it's 11 year age, over 150k mileage, and sub-£7k value, it's a "fancy car" in many peoples eyes.

I am a 100% SUV convert for daily driving, and its comfort, space, and load hauling capability is exactly what I want from everyday use.

Some people do seem on a mission to make life on the roads difficult, however SUV drivers tend not to be the worst for that ..... the lunatics (a word I don't use lightly, however when it comes to endangering others, seems perfectly acceptable and accurate) who accelerate or block when they're being overtaken whilst doing 35mph in a 50mph or 60mph zone must surely be the worst?!
