The 2.4 diesel? AT says only 30mpg combined which is a bit crappy.

Way over budget but I really like this.
I just found a great car on Auto Trader.

My old '04 V70 did around 40mpg with a mix of driving.

That looks smart but spec wise, it's no higher than the previous generation. Nor is the interior any more modern. I'd just be concerned that it's going to lose a grand or so in depreciation over the next couple of years.

What offerings do Toyota/Lexus have for your requirements? I didn't realise this shape IS was getting to sub £1500 now -

I'd love an IS as I really want a Lexus but every single mention of the 220d on here says not to buy one and the 250 won't do much better than 30mpg i'd imagine. (Are they any bigger than my 9-3?)

I wish Lincoln wasn't so far from me.
I'd buy it just for the plate.

Thats the first time I've ever seen a sat nav in one. I didn't even know it was an option!

Also, wonder what the aftermarket switch near the gear shifter does scratchchin

I reckon it's either NOS or to kill the battery.

Bargain! That's a very similar spec to the one Volvo lent my Father when they had just been released. 9 year old me loved the pop-up nav screen.

One of my old sheds has come back up for sale for what I paid for it, off to have a look tomorrow and potentially have it back as a cheap winter runabout.

That looks like it shouldn’t be owned by someone called Aaron.

It'd been run by the same exec from new until a year before I bought it then a local business owner, it just looked extremely hood. It looked a lot better when it was on CLS alloys without the old private plate.

Agreed, lots better on the CLS rims although to be fair I don’t mind the ‘murder spec’ look on these laugh

A lot of motor for the money, I’ve been tempted in the past but both of the ones I looked at appeared to have knackered air suspension so I didn’t bother. I dread to think how much this would’ve been brand new.. 80k?

I don’t really like the current alloys on that S Class, but also don’t think that the CLS wheels suit it at all. You can tell instantly that they’re a generation younger than the car.

That generation of S Class had a lot of nice wheel options

I desperately wanted a set of S65 alloys but couldn’t find any at the time

I’d say it was probably the best shed I’ve had. £1300 and I’d see 50mpg on a run.

I’d really like an S320 CDI as a future shed. Are they really as bad to run as the reputation?

I don’t mind a bit of panel rust, but structural rust poses a problem for me

Mine had some scabs on the arches but nothing more than that. It was good on fuel, all the electrics worked on mine and the suspension was fine. For £1300 I can’t imagine a better shed. Not sure if I was just lucky or not though, I could imagine it giving some bills in a year of ownership but whilst I had it on I never really had a problem. I could’ve probabky got most of my money back selling it for spares if something went wrong

The Mrs MK4 Golf GT TDI passed its MOT today, flying colours with not one single advisory, which was nice.

I like older cars.

Would I like a better car than my current one? Absolutely.

But I can’t afford to pay cash for something that would be better than what I have without needing regular maintenance. I’d rather save what spare cash I have than put it into a lease deal, or pay interest on a loan/pcp/hp deal.

I think shedding for me only became a thing when I realised that having shiny cars with the right badge etc didn’t need to define me. I pass an Alfa dealer most days and would love nothing more than to walk in and sign for a new Giulia but it’s got to be an old age thing that makes me enjoy seeing my savings slowly grow instead.
I could comfortably afford a new lease or PCP car, but I'm planning to remortgage later this year so am sticking with my 900 quid Focus that really does 95% of the stuff that said shiny new vehicle would do.
