Am I the only person who thinks that those Audi wheels look terrible?
The rest of the car (apart from the wood inside) is very nice, however.
Not the only person and I am usually an A8 fan

I'd say timeless. An Alu-bodied, powerful V8 which glides along mostly unnoticed. Such a contrast to the modern Audi way of big grills and aggression.

As something to chuck bikes and skis in, this appeals a lot.
Love these. As you say, perfect lugger and ideal for trips out with bikes/skis/other assorted ste

Like that very much. The stitching on the seats is much classier than the sport versions.

The wheels are fairly common on facelift non-sport A8s; just google image search audi a8 1999 and loads of results show them.
The standards seats are the weak link in an otherwise very nice car. They look dreadful but they're also rather flat and lack support. Not that you're going to be doing any 'sport' in them, but the sports seats hold you like a glove and are wonderful to sit in. The standard seats are fairly hopeless.

Anybody here know much about Indian spec w124s? In the back of my mind is something about the ride height and spec.

All help appreciated.

Yeh, they're my all time favourite Audi wheel, often called the A8 winter wheel. The big monoblocks are just a touch too agressive for my taste.

It's an SE spec, so they sit a good 10mm higher. I'm also not convinced the wheels are original. They look a bit like monoblocks but the centres aren't right - pretty sure they were never offered in the UK anyway, but a friend has them on his after importing some from Germany.

Spec is very decent - solar sunroof isn't a 'North America climate' pack - it was an option anywhere! It feeds power to the blower motor to cool the interior in hot weather, although it'll also do the same on cold but bright days too!

SE means you get the multifunction steering wheel. Heated seats all round was an option, as was the blind pack which is handy. Has headlight washers so should have single xenons (they're not bi-xenons as that was a further upgrade). It'll have memory seats too.

Biggest downsides to SE spec are the more wallowy ride and the flat seats rather than the 10 way Recaros, but that mileage is nothing for one of these if it's been maintained. Biggest bargeist worries are last cambelt change (due every 5 years irrespective of mileage), front suspension joints if cheap ebay specials used (Meyle HD or OEM ideally), water ingress through blocked drains (there's several!). The overmats lift out, then the carpet mats lift out, and you can see the floor of the car so it's much easier than your average car to see if water is swimming about. The relay/fuse board lives under a wooden board on the passenger side so if that's soaked up a load of water, beware!
Thank you Sir! And that's an example of why this website is just a treasure trove of knowledge and full of thoroughly pleasant gentlemen.

I tidied out my garage earlier and found a aerial kit for this phone still sealed in its packet ( just the aerial kit, not the complete car kit ).
If it is of any use to anyone, then pm me your address and I'll post it next week.

They're either E250 diesels or E220s. Saloons only. Usually dark blue metallic of grey MB-Tex. There are a few white and silver ones, though. Air con was standard. The diesels are manuals, the petrols automatics. The ride height is higher than was standard on European late models, it is more like the ride height on the early European cars. I am not aware that they are any better or worse than the cars built at Sindelfingen.

Sorry, I messed up the quotes. The kit is for a Nokia 6310 that R129sl and cat220 were discussing a few pages back.

Well now everyone knows which car I'm looking at, and everyone's got the weekend to beat me to it, any thoughts on it?

Quite a recent gap in service history eh?

Shame it doesnt have a centre armrest, and (viewed from the passenger side) is there something funny going on with the centre cubby?

Just bare in mind the cooling system leak isn't a problem, as such, with the cooling system (eg water pump, radiator etc).

Google N62B44 coolant leak and I'm sure it'll come up. There are cheaper fixes these days /which is the way I'll go when/if the time comes) but it's still around the £1k mark
Would I be avoiding any/much risk by getting a 735i instead? Same budget allows me to get a lower mileage car of a similar age.

I'd rather have the 745, but if it's higher risk, then I'd need to reconsider.

Not a huge gap really when you consider those numbers are in kilometers?
