Not been to Switzerland?

The alarm bells started tinkling when the cab fare from Geneve Airport to our chalet cost 520eu.
About 40 mins.

Shedding this month has seen a change of fleet, added sheds and added headaches. I really should stop this and sell the lot but I can’t .

Bought an A3 TDI for scrap money with a days mot, and a tendency to go into limp mode. Overboost fault but having the OBD scanner plugged in permanently and in the door pocket I just erase the fault and carry on. I stuck it in for an MOT and it passed with minor advisories. 1000 miles in a week and it’s been good so far

Mk4 Golf GT TDI 150 (mentioned in earlier pages) bought this from the second owner, paid nearly £900 for it, it’s been sitting around for 3 years unused and untested but it came with a recent fail sheet. Fixed everything and tested it yesterday. It’s great spec, but I genuinely don’t know if I’m going to keep it as the A3 above does the same job as this

Polo 1.6 TDI, bought this to fix and run with the £30 road tax. It’s got a serious engine fault so may throw another one in for less hassle.

I keep buying these cheap cars, and currently sitting at a fleet of 12 I think.

No and at those prices I'm not going to, heck you could have bought some teutonic engineering excellence with that money with the 4 rings of success on the front of the grill.

I put the Sierra on FB marketplace today. I'm not outright trying to sell it but I figure if someone wants to buy it they can have it, I like it lot and I'm glad I got it but I need something faster and lazier. I have the Orion as my slow analogue project, I'd quite like something easy like an ML500 shed. The Orion is off the road until mid May so I'll run it until then if it doesn't go beforehand, after that I'm likely just gonna keep running it.
Have you even got the V5 through yet?!

I'm around £1500-£1700 in it now, I'd only want that back. Like I said, it's only listed to see if anyone would want it, I'm not pushing to sell it. I'll see anyway, the MPG and low insurance are a nice thing to have atm. I think when I'm serious about selling it I'll just stick it on eBay no reserve as usual. A friend of mine has a 2.0 DOHC sat in his garage which has be wondering if I should revert it back to petrol as a summer project

Shedding in Spain is just called “car ownership”.

Stopped for first coffee and this pulled up.

Crusty roof, most trim gone and a few nice dents.

That is far from a shed in Spain. That would be considered a reasonably nice car. Also amusing is the fact that a dealer would give a half-decent PX for that and then retail it in the same condition it stands. Lower end forecourts resemble scrappage schemes. And the prices are eye-watering. Neighbours just bought a 1997 Nissan Qashqui with big km's and it was over €5k.

My old A4 cabrio gets more admiring glances down here than ever my Aston did in the UK. It's considered a very high end car.

We are very lucky In the UK with our car prices. Most of Europe is very expensive for buying cars.
I don't think it's a RHD thing either, I believe cars in the Republic of Ireland are both expensive and heavily taxed.

Even if the prices abroad were cheaper, I wouldn't feel confident buying private from another country. There's a lot of stuff I'd like from the mainland though like Safranes, Express vans, 405's, BX's etc

Good grief 504 pickups… I bet they would make a good shed. In fact, you could stick a shed on the back and live in it.

I quite enjoyed spotting the 90’s cars, whilst not as “bad” as Italy the number of bangs can scrapes on the majority of cars would make this thread appear like the “old conservatory”.

Was a lot of tourists hence the local cars were diluted with modern rentals.

Generally French Citroens and Peugeots seemed most common. Hatches and small MPVs.

Not sure if Spain has plans to reduce petrol/diesels cars with emission zones

Sounds just like neighbouring Portugal. Last time I checked anything Euro 3 or later was immune to the low emissions zones in Lisbon. Hefty taxes when a vehicle is first registered seems to keep used prices high & vehicle numbers down considerably compared to the UK.

And rarely will you find anybody precious enough to give a toss about the odd dent and scrape either.

It's a win win. smile

Surely 1h40? Not many mountains in Switzerland 40 mins from the airport (I live 25 mins from the airport)… I’m guessing you went to Verbier for that kind of bill?

A bit off topic. But if you had a 15K budget and needed to buy a van, transit lwb size, needs to be able to give you a decade of service and run up to 250k or so miles. What would you consider?
