After a slight delay, I collect the 190 2.6 tomorrow and we will be setting off for Ireland. 1st night is Dublin, then I'm heading south-west from there (nowhere booked). I can't wait.
Are you meeting any of our NI contingent? Judging by the MB Club magazine, there's a very active MB crowd over there. r129sl said:

Lower geared than my 300, however I was surprised to find that the comfortable cruise speed of the little 190 with the 2.6 (only adding sat nav halfway through the journey to the lakes to actually get a proper speed) was 90-110. The journey back took less time. Quite impressive for a 1988 car.

Regarding my previous, I've looked at it now, and there are two bushes and clips, one at each end of the gear selector rod.
Which is a part-threaded bar which connects the base of the gearstick to the lever on the gearbox.
Does anyone know where would be best to source such a part?
Also, found out it's a W124 230. Bit of a piece of st (like everything else in Gibraltar) actually.
Thanks in advance, Stuart.

My Lord - I suspect your post has got missed amongst the other stuff. I'd recommend a re-post of the original content with this one, and you may get a better response. r129sl is a bit of a ninja on Mercs, and there's plenty of other expertise, so someone here will be able to help. Touché! Thanks for the help Original post -
I have a friend who has a W124 E230 who is experiencing erratic gear changes under load, he says it's as if it can't make its' mind up. Aside from checking ATF level and potentially replacing with new, can anyone suggest where we would be looking?
Thanks in advance, Stuart.

I'm thinking maybe items 17, 188 and 194 (of which two are required), in which case the costs are £1.90, £1.90 (item 188 is the same as item 17) and £0.92 each. Including VAT.

The difference in values between W220 and W221 S600s is one of the things that bothers me although the W221 does look a lot more modern and less awkward.
Having said that the post facelift W220s seem to make much stronger money as you'd expect.
This one for example: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-S600-5-5-a...
Mind you 8K for a 12 year old version vs a 10 year old version does still seem a big difference.
Does anyone know if a later W220 or early W221 would be the more 'reliable' option.
I'm guessing coil packs and ABC would still be the two big things to watch out for.
That purple one has been on sale for a good 16 months since I started looking. I actually remember it being £8k back then! First time I've seen it at that dealer, but given the name of the place and the reg on the car, I suspect its the same vendor.Having said that the post facelift W220s seem to make much stronger money as you'd expect.

All S600 BI Turbos are facelift cars (generally 52 onwards, although check for a widescreen command), there was a final model revision in mid 03 (53/04) that changed the command, some electrical bits and apparently changed to a galvanized shell (although I'm yet to see anything 'official' to back this claim up). It doesn't generally affect values too much.
W220 and W221 model specific faults are relatively minor and easy to put right in comparison to the drivetrain, which as I mentioned is pretty similar so both are as reliable as each other. ABC faults and coil pack faults still apply (incidental parts in many cases), and this money I'd highly recommend you get any potential purchase plugged into a STAR before handing over any money.

Jag came back at the weekend. Since the diff failed about 2 years ago I've been really quite busy, so, it's had the diff replaced, a full repaint and the wheels are to be refurbed shortly. I should probably get the brake disks replaced as there's some wobble and the tyres really need to go at 8 years old but it's back, it works and it's bloody fast. Not sure how it'll feel with good tyres but right now it feel ludicrous.
Nice to see some Jaguarness back in the thread. Lovely colour CampDavid. My XJR still on holiday in Eastbourne, due back at the end of the month ready for a July Euro trip.
BC have been doing good deals on Mich PS3's for the XJR rim size.
Put a set on mine recently; completely transformed the car.
Do it !

Do you mind hinting at your access to the EPC- do you have the whole thing downloaded and running through an application (Windows only, as far as I can tell) or do you have access to the US site? Still no further interest in the E65 as yet.... That chap from Scotland hadn't got back to me. I'll wait until the airbag light is sorted.... What do we reckon on cost? Maybe we should hold a sweepstake I'm going for £400
No idea what wrong, mind!
Still enjoying the car, mind.
Have you tried disconnecting / wiggling / cleaning / re-connecting wires to the occupancy sensors under the seats? No idea what wrong, mind!

That's what the airbag light always is on a Rover 75. Might even be the exact same bit.

Best bet is to get a fault code reader on it really - even a standard OBD one should give you an idea (most of the critical codes aren't manufacturer-specific).
I had an issue in my 156 with the connectors to the curtain airbags which ran through the boot coming apart - a careful cable-tying and they were sorted.
Passenger seats are also the most common failure point for occupancy sensors - they tend to get moved significantly more than the driver's seat.

I have got the fault codes written somewhere when a friend scanned it. A few came up. The garage often charge to scan it, I'm wondering if I give them the fault codes they won't charge me for that.
