RE: SOTW: Ford Probe
Discussion
I've owned a Ford Probe and also it's four door brother the Mazda Xedos 6 (Same car, albeit 4 doors and a slightly smaller 2.0 V6)
They have beautiful silky smooth engines. In fact they're so smooth you find yourself checking the rev counter when sat at the lights just to make sure it hasn't stalled. They're lovely and refined on the motorway, but it's true that they don't like being thrown around the twisties so much. They're a proper GT car.
The engines are reliable. Changing the cam-belt and general servicing is easy for such a cramped engine bay.
They must be filled with 5W-30 oil or the tappets tick like mad (Just like the Ford Zetec engines).
The rocker cover seals have a habit of leaking oil over the manifolds and into the spark plug wells - changing the seals is a bit involved, but not beyond the DIY'ers.
The immobiliser can be troublesome. The fix is to remove the immobiliser (located behind the centre console) and either resolder the dry joints on the circuit board or disable it altogether (you have to link three contacts). also, the metal sunroofs can rust.
Lastly, the people in the Probe owners club are proper mental. They really are a very very weird bunch!!

not a big fan of them tbh.
but i believe most parts i.e complete brake setup will retrofit most fords before and after this model, so as someone who is looking to get a decent brake conversion done on the rear of my (drummed) focus it may be worth picking up, using it for bits i want/need then either breaking it and scrapping the rest.
been looking at 'decent' setups for conversions for my 2000 Focus and just the complete rear axle it hitting £400.
also has this thread really descended into 12 pages of Anal jokes!?
