That is one of the worst cars I've seen for a performance/economy mix...so its no wonder that it is a rare sight. A N/A engine mated to an auto gearbox never makes for a great combination for me either.

My E90 330i auto used to scream its backside off everytime you went to overtake anything...and this is much slower than that was and I thought the 330i was slow! Lexus don't seem to be in the business to sell cars...that is for sure.
What are you on about, n/a and autoboxes is a fabulous combination. The roar of the engine makes the car a delight to drive in a sporty manner and the smoothness and linear response of the engine a delight. It's super refined, wafty, and far nicer than some soulless diesel. And the kicker - it gets very similar MPG to a diesel V6 and it isn't that much slower.

The 330i is probably the nicest E90 (I tried an E46 version and it was lovely to drive).

My 320d was faster, gave better mpg, handled better, etc. Better in every measurable way actually.

I drove a 320d E90 M sport- nice handling car but I didn't enjoy the engine. The 330i would be the one for me.

An auto gearbox sucks the life out of a N/A petrol engine for me though(autos suit a torquey engine much better), and the auto ruins any chance of having fun too IMO. Granted the 330i/GS250 etc aren't cars that offer any fun anyway and they are built to cruise/waft.

I guess it boils down to personal taste though and how you like the power delivered. I didn't like how you had to thrash the 330i to get it to feel quick, max power at 6600rpm and not much torque mated to a lacklustre auto gearbox made for not a very enjoyable experience for me.

I like working the engine to make the power, and the direct linear responses. It just to me feels right and fun.

My uncle bought a used 2015 Boxster. Just the 2.7 and the pdk. I get to use the car occasionally and the engine is the stand out feature of the car for sure. A small turbo unit would totally ruin it. I’d still have bought the RCF being him but he was adamant on a convertible

Have you driven a GS250?

Are you jealous of the fact my cars better than yours. Why would I be bitter? It’s a really odd question to ask.

Yes and I think most people prefer that in fairness. The E90 330d I had before the 330i made the 330i feel gutless and thirsty for me. I think if I'd not had a 330d previously I'd have rated the 330i much higher/enjoyed it more to be honest. I thought that the 330d was the much better car, but I wouldn't have said that before I had the 330i though(I would have presumed the 330i to be better).

A colleague had a 300, it was a barge. Another had the LS400, again, barge.

I have driven the IS-F, various 911’s, various AMG’s and have owned an M3.

You don’t have a clue what your generalising about, your Lexus isn’t better than anything I own, and that includes the family toaster.

Stop slagging off cars which you are obviously just jealous about owning. To most a 911 is fairly aspirational, you drive a fking Lexus for goodness sakes, how on earth can you call it a ‘white goods VAG product?’

You’re just a very silly old man.

I am in no way jealous of 911 owners. I could have bought a basket case of a 996 if I wanted one - which as I don't I didn't buy one. The LS400 is probably one of the most defining cars of the last 30 years. You clown. It was a superlative achievement at the time.

I'm 34 - younger than you. You're the silly old fossil - not me.

There is nothing aspirational about a 911, not to me. A new LC500 yes, not a boring and derivative bland Porsche. Sorry.

We’re not discussing a 996, or an old E class, or whatever other irrelevant car you have owned.

This is about the new 911 cabrio.

You haven’t driven it, not interested in one, so why continue about your Lexus. At 34, you have already retired in your own mind driving that retirement home on wheels.

Least of all calling out things like M3’s, AMG’s etc it’s just jealousy of things that are beyond your means.

Sad.

I was going to make some remark about the Lexus owners' club, but that's too predictable!

Er, no.

Turbocharging the Boxster hasn't ruined it.
Increased power and torque across the range.

If you are using a 2.7 Boxster as a benchmark you need a new benchmark.

We have discussed that it's a better car than the alternatives. To dismiss something you have no experience of in that maner is sad. I am not jealous of other cars that I cannot afford. If I like them, I admire them - like the Lotus Evora or LC500 or even new Mustang but lets gloss over that in your vehement tirades against me.

What a sad little old fool you are.

Cars like this are about being fun, an engine that needs to be worked and makes a nice sound makes the car fun. Is this mumsnet?

All you will find on there are happy owners who love their cars. It's quite odd for a car forum - there's no sniping or anything. Don't know if it's a good place to get birds though...
