Anyone with a 200k+ miles petrol car

I cabbed a 2.0 vauxhall carlton-420000 miles.
This was my first German built VauxhallBought with 125K miles and sold with 215K miles it was a 1.8Li so 115bhp with a 5 speed manual box - might not have been the quickest thing of the mark but once rolling along never felt underpowered or sluggish - it made me a fan of the cars and I went on to own a rather large number of Senators and Carltons over the years,
I still own a Carlton it's a little bit quicker than my first one
I've had several Senators with over 200,000 miles mostly white without sunroof and keep fit windows (not hard to guess why they had high miles)
This would have made 200 K if it wasn't so bloody rotten
So I pulled the engine out and put it in a Monza that had already done 188,000 (with an odometer that didn't work)
As others have said two things are important for a long engine life
1. Change the oil on a regular basis (every 5-5K for me)
2. Don't rag it when cold
When it's warm give it a hiding and it'll be fine

My Mk4 Mondeo 2.5T has 214,000 miles on the clock. I've done about 70,000 of them. It does get regular servicing though.
Still drives very well, the mileage isn't obvious (bar the bodywork). Here's aiming for 300,000
I did 90k in mine and a quick back on fag packet calculation (26mpg @ £1.15/L) said I had spent more of fuel than the car, so that's a lot of unleaded gone through that one!Still drives very well, the mileage isn't obvious (bar the bodywork). Here's aiming for 300,000

I know! I haven't done the maths as ignorance is bliss When I bought the car I looked at the MOT history, there was one year it did 30,000 miles and my thought was that I wouldn't want to buy the petrol for that. Lo and behold, a year or two later I did 25,000 and then 30,000 miles a year! Now down at less than 10,000 miles though

Yes, so I work out I've spent roughly 16k on fuel (also way more than I paid for it)...but I've had it ~7 years and received *way* more in car allowance and mileage payments than that!
My colleague had an e46 320i with a 195k miles. It required minimal maintenance. However, it had a valve stem oil leak, meaning that it got through a 5L bottle of oil in 500 miles. So it always had new oil in it. He knew when to top up the oil when he heard the tapping.
Great car in my opinion. He only got rid as he "got bored waiting for it's death".

I made a mistake building a 3.0 24V years ago and didn't protect the valve stem oil seals when I fitted the valves - as a result they might as well have not been there - the level of smoke on overun was horrificGreat car in my opinion. He only got rid as he "got bored waiting for it's death".
That engine still didn't use 5L in 500 miles - it didn't use it in 2000 miles either

A great thread and an interesting read which prompted me to check on my Dad's old Bentley Turbo RL, off topic as he does not own the car anymore.
Purchased the car in 1993 and on the day of the sale in July 2018 the odometer showed 196,707 miles (Dad was the second owner and covered 180,000 of the total mileage).
I carried out a DVLA MOT Check this afternoon and am delighted to see the owner is heading closer to 200,000.
MOT (pass) carried out 29/10/2020 @ 199,203 miles.

Fantastic to receive an email from Matt (the current owner), who kindly sent me a couple of photographs of the car as it reached 200,000 miles.

I think there are a lot of classics that haven't got a lot of use in the last 18 mths
Currently running the family hack; a 51 plate 220k mile 2.0l petrol Honda Stream SE, for commuting (100 miles a day) - while my Mrs' '06 262k mile A4 (sorry; that one's a diesel) is having a bit of a refresh.......
The only gripes are the general lack of torque and the engine speed on a cruise - 5 speed; so the rpm is 4k+ pretty much 80/85% of the journey; I generally check any car I run weekly; oil, coolant, washers/tyres - 'living the Stream' uses approx 1/2 litre of oil in 2000 miles.
When the Stream was FiL's daily it was doing <10k/yr so we're switching it up a tad! One of the cam lobes was showing some wear the last time I did the valve clearances - caused, I assume, by valve seat recession leading to them closing up? In general it's a reliable old (7 seat!) joy.

I've got a 2005 Range Rover Sport with 262k miles on the clock.
Bought it March 2020 and have only put around 4k or 5k of those miles on myself but it's been reliable so far.
It's the 4.4L V8 engine, I don't think I've ever managed more than 23mpg with it, and around town it can be more like 15mpg.
Assuming £1 a litre and 23mpg that's about £52k of fuel. The paperwork I got when I bought the car includes the original invoice for the car and it cost its first owner £47k new so less than the fuel that's gone into it over the years!

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but right on cue:

Not my car but same model/engine and surpassed 200K, had a upper engine rebuild, does it still count?
