I've requested a refund - to be honest, Strada was a little above where my motoring interests normally are but was worth it for the overall quality of the issue.

As others have said, having had this happen with Modern Classics and now Strada, I probably won't be in a hurry to pay up front for a subscription for a magazine. Shame, but the way the subscription is just transferred to another magazine is just not the way these things should be handled.

I took a gamble on something I liked, happy to carry on with this other alternative.

I guess they can’t afford a refund for everyone so I’m happy I get something rather than cause a financial head ache for people (I assume it was a small team that poured time and money into the mag). Who knows might find something I like in this new sub.

I heard practical classics is peeking for another try.... 🤞

Understandable but If everyone took that approach we wouldn’t see a new car mag again ever. Maybe we won’t, I hope not. I appreciate the principle here but in essence we backed a start up which didn’t succeed - it happens.
I should've known better after the experience with Modern Classics magazine going down the toilet to be fair. I usually learn from my mistakes but not in this case though. Print magazines are clearly on their backside and I do genuinely find that a real shame for sure.

Magneto is a great magazine, but not really a substitute for Strada. It's more like a posh version of Octane.

How did you request the refund, by emailing the address listed at the end of the 'its over' email?

I probably have my fair share of 'luxury advertising' through my existing Spectator subscription, so don't really want to pay for any more!

I too was gutted to hear about this. As a subscriber for the full duration of Modern Classics, and then Strada for what would be it's first year, it's a shame to see that new publications really struggle to maintain traction nowadays.

Disappointed with the transfer of subscription, especially to a publication that I don't think is equal in content (I personally don't have any interest in Magneto).

I assume legally they have to offer us a refund? I've emailed to ask for one, but clearly by not detailing this at all in the email they don't want you to take this option, so have a slight fear they will just go cold on us.

I have also replied to the email asking for a refund. I don't like the assumptive move to Magneto one bit - not how to conduct business in my opinion.

No real explanation either is also annoying I should add.

Bear in mind that refunds will probably come out of somebody's personal pocket. I can affofd to lose that money. I won't starve. Whoever has to repay those subscriptions may be in a different position, given this business has gone under.

That is quite a generous position without knowing any details.
I will take my refund, thank you very much.

I mailed hothouse asking for a refund. There's nothing in Magneto that interests me, as nice I'm sure as a review of a Riva boat is....

Unless you know more this is I guess speculation? If more explanation had been given in the e-mail as to what happened 'economy outside Strada' and 'events beyond the magazine's control' are very vague, and an OPTION of what to do with maybe a default of the other mag' alongside a plea to please try this to avoid financial hardship for the founding team I would have been more inclined to not ask for a refund. The assumptive 'we have partnered with' I don't like, and Magneto doesn't seem my cup of tea, certainly not if it is more like Octane which I have had an issue of before and not enjoyed.

That’s a very charitable view given that they were taking subscription orders as recently as last week.

I already have a gift subscription to Magneto so will be looking for a refund. From my credit card company if it’s not forthcoming from the publishers.

It's perhaps worth noting that Magneto is published by a different company — Hothouse Publishing. I can't see any obvious connection between them and Eau Rouge Publishing (Strada) so it's unclear exactly what's happened here. Either the entire Eau Rouge entity has been sold, or Hothouse have merely purchased Strada's subscribers.

I haven't received the email but assume, from Juice's comment, that refunds will come from Hothouse who are very much still in business.

I already have a subscription to Magneto. I enjoy it but, as others have mentioned, it's quite different to Strada.

But subscribers money has come out of their pockets. Not sure where you are going with this? We have paid, they haven't delivered, a lot of us will want our money back.
A simple charge back is the best thing to do if they don't refund or reply to your request.

They were taking subscription orders last night when i looked...
Because of that and the "automatic" transfer on to a magazine that they have no idea if i'm interested in,i have also asked for a refund.
This arrogant attitude is not something i appreciate.

I'm not going anywhere with it. Just passing comment.

Yes, Sent an email to the hothouse email address. As others have said, the lack of specific reference to a refund option rankles with me so I will be pursuing it via a charge back if they don't respond within 7 days. Luckily I paid the Strada subscription on my credit card.

Yes, same here

Too ‘Octane-y’ for me
