£4.3 on the screen.
That’s a helluva motor for 4 bags.

Diesels really are dropping like stones.

It should be sucked out, I think. There is some benefit to mixing old and new. Overall the oil would still be fresher. Some drain, then fill, drain, then fill.....it won't be fresh fresh, but it'd be a lot better than the old stuff, plus replacing the filter as well will help.
I was speaking with the Tech that did my gearbox oil and filter change a few months ago on the 650i. He did suggest that it is always preferable to completely pump or suck out all the old oil for lots of reasons - mixing old contaminated oil with fresh will prematurely affect the fresh oil and filter, so therefore won't last as long. Also accelerated torque converter wear due to lower pressure generation because of the older oil. As an aside, for anyone that lives around North Essex / Suffolk borders, I have found that Suffolk Auto Transmissions are the go to for any gearbox related requirements.

Facelift V10 with an invoice for £4600 of turbo reconditioning earlier this year can now be yours for under £3.5k. Terrible photos, but the drivers seat looks to have worn the 188k very well.
First visit to this thread so apologies if I've misunderstood the concept but took delivery of my first Merc yesterday afternoon.
It's a 190e 2L manual, 155k on the clock and hoping to take it to many more! I'm a bit excited because I've always wanted one (love the design).
Once again apologies if this doesn't belong here.
Dunc.

Not really appropriate here I'm afraid. It's a 190e 2L manual, 155k on the clock and hoping to take it to many more! I'm a bit excited because I've always wanted one (love the design).

Gingers, 90s Merc, wheel trims. Boom.
Hope it treats you well - is it an everyday car or a low-use runaround?

It was indeed just the bulb on the LS that had gone, new one fitted and working fine apparently. Now they're looking into the knocking noise. It will be very interesting to see if they sort it or whether they "can't hear it"

Cynic! . After all my cautionary tales, they’ve done you right so far. Keep the faith!Cyprus SL news.
All customs release paperwork done, car is now booked in for the CY equivalent of an MOT on Tuesday, which if passed (no reason why not that I know of), it gets issued new plates & is considered done & imported. The official CY tax rating on the engine is 338g/km CO2 (not bad.... the M6 still trumps it!) which makes it €1508 for the year in road tax.
Suddenly, paying £570/yr for the M6 doesn’t seem all that bad, oh well, it’s only money. Which reminds me - tax due on the 7 in a day or two as well. Bloody expensive things, these cars.

Anyone know if there's a reason why they don't put a drain tap on the torque converter housing?
Seems crackers that they make it easy to drain half, and a real pain in the arse to drain it all.
Because the oil is contained within the torque converter itself, which is attached to the crankshaft and spins with it. The housing doesn't, or certainly shouldn't, have any fluid in it. Fitting an access hatch at the bottom of the housing, and a drain plug in the convertor (which would then have to be aligned with the hatch for drainage purposes) would involve additional manufacturing cost, as well as converter balancing problems, not worth it from the manufacturer's point of view; it only matteres to those of us who run cars to big mileages.Seems crackers that they make it easy to drain half, and a real pain in the arse to drain it all.

A low mileage XM for £3k, nicer if it had the 3.0 but good colour, rear blindage clearly visible and a natty digital display...

Sealed for life doesnt mean you cant change it. Range Rover gearboxes were "sealed for life" yet they would sell you the fluid. Recommended to change every 60k to avoid them going bang at 120-150k (td6 model only).
I think on the Aisin equipped boxes (LS400 included), you can only drain 2 of the 8 litres. On the LOC forum, the recommendation was to drain 2 litres, refill, run, drain 2 litres, refill etc etc until the fluid drained clear. Unsure if you can machine (mega) flush, like you can on the ZF.Our man did it on the XC70 6 months ago. Very much recommended.

After spending the small fortune on our 2003 XC90 I am wondering whether at 161k miles the auto fluid should be changed - I assume it has been done before, but apparently Volvo autos are pain and need fluid running through it or summat which costs an arm and a leg. At this rate I will be but a mere torso like the Black Knight....
I'm half tempted to go to a proper gearbox specialist to get the oil and filter done on the Lexus, although I'm told the garage it's going to can use a machine to get it out..... When it's done I'll ask them to tell me how much oil they managed to change. I THINK it takes 13 litres so if they get at least 11 litres or so I'll be happy. It did have the gearbox oil done at 30k miles by Lexus so it's not done the full mileage on original oil.

You'll be a torso in a healthier XC90 though! Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
