Lovely!
and the close up of the wing does not show rust in that area, perhaps on the other 3 arches?

Would having two R107s be considered greedy?
I think one's enough for me!

A bit concerned this one's being sold as a restoration project, a little bit of bodywork on one of these could mean something quite involved. I like the colourscheme though. As a 1980 it should be on the Fuchs "Mexican hat" alloys.

I'd love to know what people pay for Nick's cars, prices never visible. My hunch is that 6k wouldn't do it though.
Don't think it's far off £6k actually, but then again that was for a high mile, basic spec 300dt a few years ago. Probably 8-10 now.

One of our number—BarchettaBoy, I think—had a mediocre experience there. But there can be no doubt, Nick knows more about these cars than any other trader.

I've enquired about 2 over the last 18 months. They were both between £6 and £7.5k.

That simple change of wheels makes it look like a much later car, absence of front spoiler aside. Agree that the colour scheme is very nice and again unusual particularly on an early 80s car

I know people stress bodywork on these cars, but... That still looks like a steal, even if it needs bulkhead repairs. I say that because the interior looks so tidy. I think I'd rather do heavy bodywork on a 107 than restore an interior. It would, of course, have to go on baroque wheels but 15" replicas are not expensive and the tyres are cheaper still. I suspect for a total expenditure of 12 grand you could have a very nice r107.

Today's obsession: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C632892

It's in Spain. Marbella. The long haul back is part of the attraction.

My recently purchased 2002 530D for a touch over £2k.

This one is actually a really good example, minimal rust and is mechanically sound.
Aulthough this is my daily, I will also be carrying out some work and tasteful modifications - far too good to run into the gound.

On the other hand I would rather sort the interior than the bulkhead. My own R107 was not so rusty when I took it off the road, but even then when removing the engine / running gear there was still plenty of rust to be found.

Personally I think the flat face alloys look much better than the Mexican hats.

It does look very tidy in the photos and the M110 engine is a classic.

Individual - ie there's only one individual who can stand it!
I don't think I would have actually ordered the interior colour combination, but I don't think it's terrible - it is at least airy and imaginative. It's a lot better than black.

  • Acknowledging the nuance here.
It's quality MB young-timers vs mundane Ford stuff that puzzles me - Anglia Car Auctions and the like regularly see 1.3 Escorts and the like exceeding by a good margin MB and BMW stuff that would have cost 4 or 5 times at least the original cost and offers a similar multiple of driving pleasure - I'm attracted to stuff I could not have possibly aspired to in my 20's and 30's rather than the wallpaper cars of that era (even with bigger engines - now a 24v Senator may be a different matter).

A lot of it is nostalgia - and Ford's motorsport connections. Huge numbers of today's old-heapists remember a time growing up, sitting unseatbelted in the back of their dad's Cortina; not so many have the same Mercedes 560SEC personal stories.

I see what you mean though. Taste is an individual thing; I struggle to understand why so few threadists choose a nimble smooth-riding, Jag and prefer a lumbering Mercedes! wink

Stunning.

No cruise control on a £60k loony-power long-legged GT-eating super-saloon. Utterly infuriating.

Exactly the spec of the car on the poster I was given on the Jaguar show stand at the NEC in 1994, when I solemnly promised myself one of these.

Still haven't kept that promise, but it's getting closer.

I take your point, but on every car I've ever had with it, I think I've used it once to check it works and then never again. I don't like driving with it and, for me, its absence falls into the category of one less thing to go wrong with cars this age.

I use it a lot, where fitted. It's one of my very few barge hygiene factors.

  • Cruise control
  • Heated seats

A car without the above has to be extremely [insert something good] to be justifiable over a Mondeo.

That (any) XJR is of course a lot nicer than a Mondeo, but other erstwhile barges without CC and HS risk failing the 'But How Is It Better Than A Mondeo?' Test.
