Stunning.

No cruise control on a £60k loony-power long-legged GT-eating super-saloon. Utterly infuriating.
I take your point, but on every car I've ever had with it, I think I've used it once to check it works and then never again. I don't like driving with it and, for me, its absence falls into the category of one less thing to go wrong with cars this age.
Are you sure about the cruise control? I thought it was standard across the XJ range, but just checked. Standard on the Sov and XJR of that vintage. Optional on the others.

As for using it, I find that with the endless average speed check cameras littering the motorway network, cruise is essential to the relaxed waft experience.

What's not to like about cruise? Even on a busy-ish Road I use it. Tap the brakes if needed to slow down (as you normally would), accelerate using the pedal to speed up (as you normally would) but and press the reactivate button to make it cruise again, simple.

Great as well for 40/50/60 limit zones.

Same for me, if I drive a car without cruise, I can't wait to get out of it in most cases.

I'm definitely a cruise convert. Hate holding my leg in one position for hours and as said it's great for average speed cameras.

Cruise control is a requirement for a daily and especially on a car such as that.

My foot starts to ache on the motorway before long without it.

It's fine on deserted motorways, and I get the point about average speed zones, but I just don't like it in traffic.

I love cruise control and use it for all the reasons mentioned above. Pretty sure it was standard on the XJ but can't remember using it when I had a six cylinder XJR (XJR6?X300?) a few years back. Mind you, I was trying to kill an old worn pair of tyres on that one, so cruise might not have been an issue.

Nope, even on the R it was an option. The dealers at the time said it wasn't even vaguely economical to retrofit, although they could be wrong of course.

X308 have the CC switch on the centre console behind the J-gate, so it's always easy to spot on adverts if it's fitted or not.

1 switch is always there, for the traction control, and a second switch alongside it for CC is either there or not.

On X300 all the gubbins are hidden behind the right side of the steering wheel, so much harder to spot on photographs if it's fitted.

That may have been the case for the X300, but this suggests it was standard for the X308.

Excellent bearding there.

FWIW I agree with those that find it a must-have option. I'm not bothered for it on fun cars, but on a longer trip it's a must-have now, especially with all these 50mph limits cropping up.

Maybe that's a late brochure after some spec improvements? Dunno.

That 1998 Red XJR definitely doesn't have it.

I am also in the 'cruise control is essential' camp. I use it daily and on nearly every trip I take.

It's in Spain. Marbella. The long haul back is part of the attraction.

That would be an interesting trip! Looks like it has cruise too but not mentioned in the ad.

And the 1998 XJR my father had didn't have it either, which was the only option he missed when he upgraded, hence the dealer query. I'd imagine it was made standard as part of the mid-life refresh, didn't HID lights come in as well then?

ETA: It also didn't have memory seats, rain sensing wipers or a heated windscreen. And that brochure also has the Asteroid wheels as standard fit, rather than the Penta which was on the earlier cars.
