Not V8s, but the old-shape Saab 9-5 (or was it 9-3?)
900 and 93 were the 'verts.900:

Well they are small (6 & 3) but growing quickly so maybe you all have a point.
Incidentally, I’m looking after a friends MGB at the minute and whilst they are terrible in almost every way, I’d be lying if I said a we’ll sorted MGC or v8 didn’t appeal. I think it’s the smell of unburnt fuel and the glimpse of chrome when you open the bonnet. Obviously no rear seats.
Budget is probably up to £14k for something nice so I think I might have a rethink....
MGB V8 would be my choice - I look after my Dad's non-V8 and it's a lovely thing. As you say, objectively it's utterly rubbish, but once you're out and about it's a very pleasurable thing to hoof around in. The only thing his needs is a bit more shove, easily accomplished with a V8.Incidentally, I’m looking after a friends MGB at the minute and whilst they are terrible in almost every way, I’d be lying if I said a we’ll sorted MGC or v8 didn’t appeal. They also have the bonus of being an absolute doddle to look after - parts are cheap and easily had, all the problems are known and there's legions of material on how to look after it.

That'll go well enough.
Or just the plain Alpine if 45 grand was too salty.
That Tiger is stunning. Somewhat punchy pricing though.
I do like the look of this r107 actually.

Cheap enough that of it melts in the winter you can throw it away. V8 engine and not too "square"?

Price seems more than reasonable if it’s in serviceable nick too.

I would add that I’m not constrained by thread budget (sorry).
Never been a fan of the CLK and really I want a classic. Can’t really fit that bill unless I go for an xjs convertible, and well, that’s not going to happen.
The r129 has a certain something about it, that whilst it is a modern car, it has the class of something older. Well I could be talking nonsense but that’s what I think anyway.
Will be used on high days and holidays and trips to the beach as well as a few runs over the moors twice a month from Newcastle to Blackburn and back. I think I need the v8.
In which case, if we are allowed to bust the budget (slightly), I've always fancied one of these...Never been a fan of the CLK and really I want a classic. Can’t really fit that bill unless I go for an xjs convertible, and well, that’s not going to happen.

...is that a euphemism in s/hand car ads for "I cannot lie very well in real time"?

I'm a short-arse, but my kids at 8 and 4 sit very comfortably in the back of the XJS, and will do for another 4-5 years I'd say.Incidentally, I’m looking after a friends MGB at the minute and whilst they are terrible in almost every way, I’d be lying if I said a we’ll sorted MGC or v8 didn’t appeal. And a £14k XJS (or similar older car) holds the advantage of going (slowly) up in value, rather than just about every newer £14k 4-seat cabrio which will still have the distressing habit of halving in value every three years.

FantasticI can think of better ways to spend £30k, but I'd love a go in that.
