RE: SOTW: Ford Probe
Discussion
my dad had one of these when i was younger, 8 years he had it, absolutely loved it, but i think i remember a new alternator every few thousands miles? something dodgy with it, would cut out quite a lot . . . loved it though, but this one is a total bargain! would buy one now for the memories if the insurance liked me!

And I think we haven't seen all Hondas yet?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Honda_vehicle...

I've owned a Ford Probe and also it's four door brother the Mazda Xedos 6 (Same car, albeit 4 doors and a slightly smaller 2.0 V6)
They have beautiful silky smooth engines. In fact they're so smooth you find yourself checking the rev counter when sat at the lights just to make sure it hasn't stalled. They're lovely and refined on the motorway, but it's true that they don't like being thrown around the twisties so much. They're a proper GT car.
The engines are reliable. Changing the cam-belt and general servicing is easy for such a cramped engine bay.
They must be filled with 5W-30 oil or the tappets tick like mad (Just like the Ford Zetec engines).
The rocker cover seals have a habit of leaking oil over the manifolds and into the spark plug wells - changing the seals is a bit involved, but not beyond the DIY'ers.
The immobiliser can be troublesome. The fix is to remove the immobiliser (located behind the centre console) and either resolder the dry joints on the circuit board or disable it altogether (you have to link three contacts). also, the metal sunroofs can rust.
Lastly, the people in the Probe owners club are proper mental. They really are a very very weird bunch!!
I bought a '92 MX-6 last month off fleabay. Isn't that the sister car? The UK version only came with a V6. 8 mth MoT, 3 mths tax,122k, a bit tatty at the edges but £400. My own SOTW. Smooth engine and gearbox. Being used to a diesel for so long, it seems quite quick to me.They have beautiful silky smooth engines. A lot of interchangeable mechanical parts with the V6 Probe, I agree about the weirdness of some of the Probe owner forums!
I used to own a late 16v version on an 'R' plate. I liked it. It was the most reliable car i've ever owned, the most comfortable car i've ever owned, gigantic boot and pop-up headlights. As the article says it didn't handle well but it did corner with it's low stance.
Negative points, 2.0 16v with just 113bhp and circa 1300kg, it was VERY slow!
The biggest problem with these are the parts. They don't share much from the Ford parts bin so it can be (relatively) expensive to service/maintain compared to a Mondeo of similar vintage for example.
