I remember reading this edition of the magazine, many times, as a young lad:

ps. Fantastic film. Far better than the rubbish that is most of Top Gear.

FWIW, I'd have the F40.

Call me a hopeless old romantic but something very warming about this scene.

A great video - possibly your best yet. But then I think I said that about the Caterham v Morgan too.. biggrin

I thought Chris was going to go down on him.

Great film. Both lovely cars.

The best way to watch Chris (and for that matter Petrolicious and the other great car content now on the net) on TV, it to stream it onto your TV through an xbox apple TV etc or directly if you have Virgin and one of their Tivo boxes.
Or any decent smart TV with a youtube app will do it without any extra boxes smile That's how I watched it.

IIRC edition one of Fast Lane was in April 1983, white 911 on the front cover with the reg 911 HUL. Edition 2 featured a mad twin engined Scirocco I think. Happy days .

13 pages on a 25 yr old badly built car with no safety aids or gadgets.

On average that's 10 pages more than any modern super car can manage.

Says rather a lot doesn't it? Like we've gone backwards really. Too many wires, too few cables.

Without doubt the best explanation of what an F40 is, what it does and how it makes you feel, it is absolutely bang on.

I remember my first ride in one in 1995, and every subsequent drive in one, starting when I was in my early 20's (working for a Ferrari dealer which i did for 9 years).

I wish I realised then how lucky I was, I did however realise how special it was, thank you Mr Harris for showing the world exactly what an F40 is and why it's so good :-).

...I pass a McLaren dealership most days and have very little interest in what they sell.

Having said that, I wouldn't turn down a test drive...

I am similar to that the new Mclaren doesn't do much for me...wouldn't say no if someone gave me one though, I would just sell it & get something you actually have to drive & not just sit in push the throttle & let all the electronics do it all for you.

I was GRINNING so much with the monkey!!!!!

EXCELLENT! Going to watch the driving part over and over again!

I want a hypercar sooo bad right now... Carrera GT would be the most reasonable choice - but after watching the video... It's no Ferrari!! Sigh.

I've still got that copy upstairs tucked away with other car mags.

As for this video? I'll keep it short:

Bloody epic. The owner of the cars, Chris, and PH deserve a big group hug for this one.

I had goosebumps watching that, fantastic work Mr Harris!

I'd take an F40 over any modern supercar.

Lovely cars but lets be honest, they're both utter piles of st (not the slightest exaggeration) compared to an F1.
What a stupid thing to say.
Unfortunately that's the reality. Build quality, details, performance etc. In every aspect the F1 is in another dimension.

Not saying these aren't great cars but Chris's comment on the F40 being the best supercar ever is a bit of a laugh.
So you'd also say that the F1 is an utter pile of st (not the slightest exaggeration) compared to a Veyron?
The F1 is by far the more singleminded effort of those two. I still don't really know what the Yeyron is? It certainly isn't the car that springs to mind when I hear the word 'super car'. Whereas the F1 is the absolute definition IMO.

The F40 is widely regarded as the best by plenty of folk so it's hardly 'a bit of a laugh'.

Much enjoyed, thanks.

I think it's so special because the shape of the F40 itself is iconic to many of us, and then to see *that* shape, rotating in three dimensions as it moves around on the track and kicks sideways, is very special. The moment at 7'00 when the F40 just sliiiides into the frame is magic.

Also v good to hear from Mark Hales.

Obviously nothing can really top this film, however if you get a chance to thrash any other iconic supercars, that would be good wink
