I like your thinking.

I’d be very interested to hear how these two compare and, most importantly, which is more fun.
I will do my best but they are very different so it depends what you define as fun.

The BMW sounds amazing and IMO isn't too big for B roads plus RWD and an LSD mean that you can have a play and it will look after you in MDM which is all I need. I also don't regret getting DCT one bit as I find the engine (and what an engine it is) really suits a dual clutch and the extra ratio helps you enjoy the sound a little more.

On the downside it is expensive to run and I like modifying cars so that ups the cost too plus it is the least reliable car I have owned but I think I caused one of the faults being over zealous with a pressure washer and BMW caused another by over servicing the brake fluid.

The Yaris is basically everything I want from a hot hatch and I love how unique it is and how all of the money feels like it went into making it more fun to drive instead of a fancy LCD tach or multiple suspension settings. The car really inspires confidence when pushing on and I always put it into sport and shut off the traction control as I feel like that is how it is supposed to be driven, the manual transmission is brilliant to use and even the rev matching feature is pretty good, I know that everyone on PH is a H&T driving god but honestly I prefer to use the rev match on roads I don't know so well.

One thing I will say is I find all the talk of the seat being too high in the Yaris is nonsense if you are going to do UK road trips to Wales or Scotland, I just got back from one such trip and on those great roads like the one around Llyn Brianne the last thing you want is to be sat lower making it more difficult to see which way the road goes over a crest (the Z4 driver who was with us can attest to that).

I guess you could probably say the Yaris is the more 'fun' car but I would put it this way:

Trip to IOM - BMW

NC 500 - Yaris

Great insight, thank you. I haven’t had a hot hatch for about 20 years and have never had a 4WD, so it seems like a perfect match. Only issue is that I don’t really have room for it.
