There's no way that the Quality of the Golf R will be matched by a ford.
Agree. Not only that though its still just a white goods Ford and will never have the image a German made vehicle does.Re the looks, very fugly from the front, far too much going on and looks a very lame attempt. Could easily be mistaken for a Korean offering. Still, it will sell by the bucket load and be stuck to your rear bumper by all the Baz's and Gaz's out there desperately trying to prove a point..

I would say that German cars are just as white goods product as any other commuter/family/general car manufacturer. The amount of entry level A3s, A4s, Golfs, A class etc that are on the roads at the moment must be an all time high for German cars.Re the looks, very fugly from the front, far too much going on and looks a very lame attempt. Well we can always count on Bravo two zero to weigh in with an interesting view point Re the looks, very fugly from the front, far too much going on and looks a very lame attempt. Every generation of hot hatches has had a bit of a chav image and this one'll be no different, but the performance package it offers more than compensates, and good on Ford for still making this sort of car. If I was younger I'd be very tempted, even if the front is absolutely gopping ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

You got him by the balls, lol
Caught with his pants down. Nothing wrong with being biased...

A quick look at the profile and he drives a Golf R. coincidence?

the ST's interior's vile and don't get me started on the rattles.
but.. if your a ford fan-boy it does look good.
6 speed manual even with 320 HP will be slower than the DSG in an R.
You've been lurking here for 3 years, looking every time a Focus RS announcement is made, hoping and wishing it was 4wd, just to make that post about a golf R being better haven't you! the ST's interior's vile and don't get me started on the rattles.

I understand that a lot of cars use plastic body panels, but i've never had one that flexes so badly when being washed! I'll never forget the first time I washed it, I just couldn't put any pressure on the front wings through fear of caving them in! ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Minimal body panel flex when washing a car is a fair way down my list of priorities... ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

This RS sounds like a great revision of the Focus to me. Stealth grey'll do.
I also said the same thing, but your usual PH bulls
t keyboard drivers were convinced it was FWD.

I hate to say this but... I TOLD YOU SO!
In the very first page of the original article I said it looked 4WD in the video. Where are all the nay-sayers now hmmmmmmmm?
I've never felt much of a pull towards the Focus RS but I properly, desperately, urgently need a go in one of these. Ford are absolutely on it right now...

The new St Diesel is to be offered in dual clutch later this year.
It's the same with the ST. I've been after an estate car recently and if the ST was available with their Powershift there would have been no competition, I'd have had one. VW, Audi, Mercedes etc. all offer dual-clutch autos on their quick models as it's becoming expected these days. I can't believe Ford are missing out on loads of potential custom by refusing to offer it...

How come Ford don't have a slick semi-auto gear box? Surely it's de-rigeur on a modern performance car? All the rivals have it with the option of a manual if you still want it.
I completely agree! It's so annoying that they don't even offer it! I can't drive manuals due to using hand controls and it's so frustrating that I'll never be able to drive a Focus RS! If they did, I'd have one in a heartbeat. It's the same with the ST. That front end is horrid, it looks like those horrible aftermarket bumpers that kids were bolting to the front of novas/saxos etc a few years ago - they looked crap then, don't look any better now.
As someone else said, I find only a 20kg weight penalty for the 4x4 hard to believe.
I don't like the 5 door thing either, they should at least offer a 3 door version.
I still can't get my head around a Golf/Focus etc costing north of £30k. I suppose I'm getting old but its a hell of a lot of money for a tarted up hatch.
The whole point of hot hatches was they were tarted up hatches with good performance/stand out looks for (relatively) little money compared to performance/sports cars. I think the manufacturers have lost the plot somewhere along the way.
The Ford boys will buy this in their droves, because they always do but I can't really see the attraction.

The people suggesting Ford are some budget, hugely inferior product, driven solely by people called Gary are definitely Conservative voters. The sort of Conservative voter that would point blank refuse to enter Tesco or Asda, and absolutely decry the fact they were brought up on a council estate. They'll also wax lyrical about how nice the interior is on there Audi A3 whilst in work, whilst said A3 is in the garage. Probably for another flywheel, or a set of injectors, or an electrical fault, or a light on the dash.
