It is worth noting that any current owner of an Exige V6 S or Evora V6 S can buy the power upgrade kit from KomoTec (Via Hangar 111) in the UK for much less than the cost of buying the new Evora 400. The KomoTec kit uses the same kit, i would suggest probably higher quality than Lotus are using (Headers, cats, SC pulley, remap, innduction box)and for £7k you can get 430bhp & 344lb Torque from the engine comfortably.
I had this fitted last summer, have done many track days including SPA, ultra reliable and runs beautifully.

http://www.hangar111.com/lotus/toyota-v6-superchar...
I thought the Lotus 400 upgrade involved a different supercharger and a charge cooler, whereas the Hanger 111 kit uses a different pulley on the existing supercharger with modified air intake/filter etc?
You are correct yes, same charger different pulley, new airbox and filter (on the ex430 only, not required on the 390).
Sorry, I must have mis-understood your post. The way I read it made it sound like you were saying Komo-Tec/H111 for their 400 kit use the same upgrades as Lotus for the Evora 400.

Don't get me started about people who think the Elise used to be cheap. For some reason people think the S1 was the same price as an MGF. I've got the original sales bill for mine, it was £24885 on the road all the way back in 2000 - 15 years ago!
Indeed - I have a 2000 S1 111S, and looking at the original price list it was over £30k with the options it has...

According to the blurb on the factory press release the torque on the new model is increased to 410Nm, so that is a significant increase and will make a big difference in the real world.
I have an Evora S which is already tweaked to 390hp and my immediate thought was I want a new one, but then it occurred to me that I could further tweak my own car, get the interior retrimmed, and fit some of the GTE parts etc, mainly because I think £72-5k is a lot for any car (even though when compared to cars of similar performance it represents competitive value). However, I think I am changing my mind again and the new car does have several significant improvements. I could spend £15k or so on my car, but it would be very hard to recouperate the investment, whereas the new car will have a warranty, be reasonable to insure and service. Simple really, and because there are so many people who seem to have it in for Lotus, they will be relatively few and far between so the residuals will be good! To be fair, some ex staff have been treated pretty poorly by the Malaysian owners so they have a point.
I wonder what Komotec will make of the revised car???

Manual, Canyon red, Sports exhaust. 50% down and 50% balance in 24 months.

I will tell the wife I have paid £36k for a new Lotus, happy days.

When are orders being taken, anyone know?

Yes, I think that's the whole point and also accounts for dropping the N/A model. Until now the cheaper Exige has been the quicker car, which makes little sense when trying to market the cars in a coherent way.

The Exige will get the same engine, and will then be the quicker car again. The cars are different enough in focus not to cannibalise each other, I think.

As per the above comparison, KT appear to get their power by running the supercharger at a faster rpm and increasing intake capacity in line with that. Lotus, however, have changed the supercharger and added a charge cooler. Putting those two together, there's no reason I'd have thought why Komotec couldn't do the same thing to the new engine. Whether the gearbox would take it or not is another matter; personally I think I'd prefer the peace of mind of a warranty on everything, but I confess I've never been much into straight line speed, preferring handling and how a car drives, particularly in a road car.

Which is where the other aspects like LSD, aero, shift map, 'race mode', weight reduction etc weigh in favour of the 400 - it's not as one dimensional as just a power hike.

I have one of each...do not ask, but they are completely different cars to drive and the Evora is perfectly practical (unless you have a family to carry around)...but I use the Exige everyday because it is a company car!...and I love every second of it.
I have been looking forward to Komotec`ing the Exige, but yes an Exige 400 will be a step up again...but then why bother, they are both brilliant as it is...???

Having had 3 x 911's which were great cars, I still loved my Evora S.

If you're a true petrolhead, with the budget to afford a Lotus (whether new or secondhand) , get your arse down a Lotus dealer and drive one. Only then can you truly give opinion on the cars in terms of driving. At the moment I hold judgement on the looks of the new car, but the performance improvements will make it an epic car.

As others have said you need to see the cars in the flesh as they are a bugger to photograph. I always received positive comments re my car and will be back in a Lotus in the near future smile

Go on........ Test drive one and come back and comment wink

Agreed about needing to see it in the flesh. The 400 looks much better than it does in the pictures

I had a look round one at Hethel for PistonHeads - the pictures of it were disappointing

Maybe they should let owners photograph it for them..... They know the best angles smile

Christ even I can make the ugly XBOW look near passable ....well nearly wink. They should get GFWilliams on the case

Anyway just read the latest article by Chris Harris for jalopnik. Always been an admirer of his work, but disappointed to find him basic slating the car before even seeing one, I assume, in the flesh or driving it. Very poor journalism frown

Well, I for one think he's hit the nail right on the head.

Harris talks about objectivity, and says it is overpriced compared to a Cayman GT4. OK - so, in objective terms, how can the GT4 possibly be worth near as damn it 60% more money than a base Cayman? It sure as hell doesn't cost Porsche anywhere near as much as that extra to make it. He also says that it looks too much like a 2009 Evora - and a 2015 Cayman doesn't look a lot like a 2006 one?

The gist of his article is that journalists judge cars too much by where they are from rather than their intrinsic merits. I think he is doing exactly that. He hasn't even sat in the bloody thing yet, let alone driven it.

There certainly was a period where British journalists were ridiculously pro-British... these days I think it's gone the other way, though; it's almost as if they feel they aren't allowed to like British cars because people will call their integrity into question.

I've never been particularly pro-British. Most British engineered products (including the cars) built in my life-time have been utterly woeful. However, I fail to see how the Evora can be considered objectively "over-priced" when it's the best part of twenty grand cheaper than the obvious competition (the 991 C2).

No problem with the wider story which is valid , just his views on the Evora before seeing or driving it.
