You're right, we're simply in the realms of speculation, although I had pause for thought at the hole in the barrier, which looks barely longer than the width of the Seat to me, as if they weren't turning at all when they went through. Having read all this thread and the thread on the seat forum about the car and how it was modified makes disturbing reading. I don't have a clue about his driving ability and don't intend on going down that route but when you read in detail what was done to the engine brakes And suspension it's quite obvious he spent a fair amount on building the car but nowhere in the thread did he ever mention having the car optically aligned suspension wise or corner weights checked. This might sound over the top but if you plan on putting 300-400 bhp through the front wheels I would think it essential. ? I would anticipate that the car was at best skittish and possibly worse I did notice in his thread he had had problems with broken engine mounts on more than one occasion. My sympathies go to the families involved

I think it's fair to assume that carrying a bit of speed up there may very well have led to the car taking off just as they crest the rise and enter the corner, resulting in any steering or braking being much less effective and hence no tyre marks on the road.

Watched the guys Facebook footage. Watched about half the motorbike footage - the road doesn't look that big a deal to me. Ive driven a people carrier into the Alps half a dozen times in winter, and it always makes me want to come back in summer with a convertible.
I would say that you have to be aware of drivers crossing the line on blind corners, but by driving conservatively I've never had any problems.
One morning I did drive by a car on its roof. But that's ski season conditions.

Even up hill he still needs to brake at every bend to check his acceleration.The video showed hard acceleration towards bends going downhill, no reason to think he would do that any less going uphill. He was also close to being back at the top. So that is 48km down plus at least 30km back up. Even up hill,I think boiling brake fluid is a very plausible scenario.
However FurtiveFreddy's post + picture suggests a very convincing alternative, the final kink left could easily leave the car off balance and poorly positioned for the crest.

Bloody hell that bike video shows a hell of a lot more, obviously can't compare weather conditions as don't know when that was filmedone but there were damp patches in the shadow of the wall and that left turn is a he'll of a lot sharper than you would imagine with only a wooden barrier to stop you!If you watch the video from 3:25 to about 4:35 it shows the section of the road involved.
I have never driven in the alps, it's on my to do list, but I think now more than ever I will take a little more care!
