Ultra rare VW Golf "Swallow Tail"

From launch, the line on the rear panel pressing on the Mk 1 dipped from the tail light to the bottom of the number plate. Just a year later, this was changed to a straight line for the rest of production. Show one of these so called early Swallow Tail cars to a Golf geek and they'll be reaching for the tissues.

Top bearding. Took me a while to spot the difference.

BX 4TC

The nose of the 4TC was much longer than the production versions due to the engine being mounted in line - all the regular cars had transverse engines

A particularly weird beast. Turbo charged version of the Simca Type 180 (an outdated 1970's engine) with a SM gearbox that was originally used in the DS. No Centre diff and to help with weight the radiator and oil cooler were in the back.

Can see just how much engine bay the boat anchor takes up.

Not really a surprise it was a failure. Although I have somewhat of a hankering after one (although not enough to consider buying one) as it's a car I think would be an ideal contender for a restomod and nose job! rofl
It was such a failure that Citroen purchased as many as they could and crushed them, hence why so few survive

There was also the Nissan Sunny ZX turbo as well. Used to walk past one in my local village and had quite a bodykit on it. Looked very pumped up.
Must have been an import as IIRC the only UK Sunny factory turbo was the GTI-R.
Might have been a Cherry Turbo?
I can weigh in the Cherry turbo. Here's mine. Not sure how many are on the road but I know there's a few SORN'd/rotting away.

1.5 8v OHC non intercooled turbo. Quite a nippy carrier.

Saw one of these today in Stratford, East London - Yaris GRMN. First one I've seen since they were launched in 2017.

400 cars were sent to Europe and of which 100 came to the UK. Looked very nice in the flesh compared to pictures. Really do like the look now.

Discussed earlier in the thread. Been looking at these but might be a bit too small for me. Not too sure on the dashboard as well.

Ah....didn't see that, sorry.

I love small compact cars and that looked just right. Actually looked bigger in the flesh compared to pictures.

I do agree though they look a cracking little motor. Sounds lairy as well when the supercharger winds up.

The Sedicivalvole won pretty much every group hot hatch test of the early 90s

Can’t remember when I last saw one on the road!

Escort RS 1700t

Purely intrigued, could you buy it?
No

BUT

Malcolm Wilson has a blue road trimmed one in his museum and the development cars were taken to compete in South Africa as the rules allowed them over there without the same homologation. A few made it back to the Uk, one was campaigned by a chap called Simon Nutter in national events for years Sans most of the body kit. Another has been restored recently and done the rounds. Very cool car

I remember a local red 3 door Nova 1.5 TD raking around in the mid 90s. It was rare then and surprisingly rapid compared to the usual stuff we were driving around in our late teens.

Mazda 323 4x4 Turbo
I had an early one of them 88 _E reg in an orangey red colour - was a bit of a let down not quick enough , soft suspension and brakes not great.

What about a Mazda 323 1.5 GT - their first attempt at a sporty 323 after they went from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive - how many hatchbacks have that in their history ? Original round shape 323 was rear wheel drive .
