High mileage cars for sale

Over £5k seems a lot of money for a decade old car that is, let's be honest, most of the way to death. That's enough money to be too much to throw away on a chance, particularly if you're the sort of person who even looks at decade old 200k BMWs
Odd one this. E9x 335d M Sport Tourings are as rare as rocking horse mess. I've owned e9x's for 4 years and have only ever seen 1 in the flesh. 335d's go like stink. Living in London I know a lot of people who barely use their cars. One friend only ever uses his car to drive to Brighton and back once a month tk visit his folks. If you're only doing 1500 mile a year would it not be worth a punt? If this was low mileage it would be worth double this and more
I could have sworn this thread was more popular, anyway, 292k smart forfour, assume a (dis)courtesy car of some sort. Unless the owner really hated their own back!

Is 161k miles 'high milage' for a 7 series BMW? Id have thought it was pretty common. "Still gives pleasure"
That back to front gear stick looks like an ergonomic nightmare

Found this when looking for an SL, I'm tempted but really want the newest R129.

Hope you will excuse this one, on 17 months old, a privately owned Tesla with 43k miles, never seen one above 20 odd k before the first owner seems to sell it on....

erm - 43,000 miles with a 'range' in the 200s means well-over 200 charge cycles already - do Tesla really have a 'no wear and tear' warranty on the batteries? Wonder how long that will last ;0http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/t...
With less things to go wrong I would expect a Tesla to rack up serious miles before major failures, despite being fairly new on the market. The basic tech isn't new.
If I had paid 80k for one I would be trying to get my value from them.... as this business model does.

The Tesla Model S drive unit warranty has been increased to match that of the battery pack. That means the 85 kWh Model S, our most popular model by far, now has an 8 year, infinite mile warranty on both the battery pack and drive unit. There is also no limit on the number of owners during the warranty period.
Moreover, the warranty extension will apply retroactively to all Model S vehicles ever produced. In hindsight, this should have been our policy from the beginning of the Model S program. If we truly believe that electric motors are fundamentally more reliable than gasoline engines, with far fewer moving parts and no oily residue or combustion byproducts to gum up the works, then our warranty policy should reflect that.
To investors in Tesla, I must acknowledge that this will have a moderately negative effect on Tesla earnings in the short term, as our warranty reserves will necessarily have to increase above current levels. This is amplified by the fact that we are doing so retroactively, not just for new customers. However, by doing the right thing for Tesla vehicle owners at this early stage of our company, I am confident that it will work out well in the long term.

All very good, but what use is an 8 year warranty if Musky sells Tesla or the company folds?
Cheer up, Brian. You know what they say. Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad.
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle,
Don't grumble, give a whistle!
And this'll help things turn out for the best

I've heard mixed things about how the Teslas cope with higher miles, sounds like they aren't as solid as their German counterparts.
Are the German counterparts really that good? Saw an advert for a 2009 Merc 350CDI recently. "For sale £10495, 80,000 miles, £5000 in recent bills". Didn't exactly fill me with confidence that it was going to be a cheap car to run!!!60 plate 1.4 tfsi A1 189k Iinteresting MOT history
