With any of our finance incentives on used vehicles such as free servicing or deposit contributions, you are advised that if you settle the finance before you have made 3 consecutive payments any incentives will be clawed back!

You are well within your rights to cancel within the 14 days or before the three payments have been made just as long as you don't expect to keep anything that incentivised you take out the finance over paying "cash"
I understand you can refinance a PCP (or any other financial agreement) - do any dealers do this, or is it just brokers?

Do you mean take out another pcp or hp agreement to replace the first one, if so yeah

Yes - a PCP. Is it common?

Yes it's very common, the vast majority of people requiring finance use pcp mainly because of the lower monthly payments they produce.

Thanks for that. I really will have to read the small print as the one I'm looking at includes the £600 deposit contributions plus the first 2 services FOC

As other threads on the matter have turned into an argument; can you guys who actually operate at the sharp end confirm the following please?

- Are the prices of used cars beginning to soften?
- Is the demand from the public for used cars easing a little?

Many thanks

I must but in a fairly small minority of people that don’t actively seek to screw over an entity that I hope, even need, to rely on for future work, for the sake of an nominal (in the grand scheme of things) kickback.

I’m not saying dealers should be sanctified, but if I can’t perform necessary work on the car (a likely event given how much software is involved these days, that and my hopelessness as a mechanic) then it’s in my best interest to maintain a good relationship.

I guess it’s like this - if I needed to use a restaurant from time to time, I’d rather have a good relationship with the staff there than trash the place with a bad review after my first visit, but carry on going there through necessity and getting a perfunctory level of service (or worse) at full price, with no concessions (e.g. freebies, stuff that they aren’t obligated to give but do so, etc). That may or may not be a bit of a crap analogy.

Also, “there are other dealers” Is a fair point, but those other dealers could be some distance further away, which itself would incur additional costs in using them (travel expenses, time, etc)

Most sales and service departments are totally disconnected so I am not too sure that the relationship building is relevant.

This - In most glass palaces I’m not sure the sales guys will even recognise you when you rock up for a service 12 months later, if the same salesman’s even still there!

I guess they know what they’re doing but that disconnect has always struck me as very odd in dealers - seems like a massively missed opportunity.

I've been offered the finance screening over option by the salesman himself before.

I've never taken him up. Partly as it doesn't sit right.

The only time I've taken up finance the finance company, Toyota themselves had my back when arguing with the dealer completely.

What about the ubiquitous £2000 deposit contribution if you take out PCP? (VW) Does that get clawed back?

I’ve paid the PCP off straight away 3 times in the last few years and still kept all the incentives. If they try to claw it back it’s going to be expensive.

With VW it’s split between them and the dealer. Sales guys on here have said some manufactures have it written in the contract that they reserve the right to recover any contribution but in practice don’t.

Yes (but not massively) and yes. I can only speak for Volvo, but our new supply of ICE cars is almost back to normal, PHEV's and BEV's is patchy at best for supply. We're now doing big discounts on selected ICE cars which leaves a year old XC90 now similarly priced to a new one.

Thought this was worth sharing for a giggle. You have to bless the persistence of this bs:

On behaf of the Directors at [redacted], we would like to invite you to our once-a-year Directors Event being held at all of our retailers below, between Friday 9th and Monday 12th September.

Directors Event
Our Directors have authorised us to offer some staggering discounts on the [redacted] range over these four days. So exceptional are these savings that at this stage we cannot put these in writing – but we are sure, that you will not be disappointed

The Event will run like this
On arrival you will see a list of cars all with great savings against the manufacturers retail price; simply select the car of choice, we can value your part exchange and offer you a price (if applicable) it’s that simple. Should you require finance, we can also offer competitive rates across all models. Finance options are available. Any outstanding finance on your existing vehicle can be incorporated into an offer on a new car.

Remember the Directors Event offers are only available during the event.

I had an email on what would appear to be the same event.

I looked at it, but I won't be looking any further.

Out of interest, would similar success be had by sending an email out saying, "We'll be offering maximum discounts accross the range. Please visit between x and y. You may want to make an appointment, as we expect to be busy"?

I.e., do people really fall for the additional flannel?
