Test bed for aeroplane tyres IIRC?
The PLR was for truck tyres.

Matra used a Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 (the original Rote Sau was modified for this, in fact), for testing airplane tyres (see https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Can’t be bothered to go back and check if already posted, but I am in India now and saw one of these.

Behold, a Volkswagen Vertus. Apparently it’s a new model over here.

Another weird car from Brazil. This one has a cool story.

This car is called ALDEE, it's partially based on the Brazilian VW Gol platform (FWD). It was developed during the mid-80s and sold 16 units until 1990:

However, in 1990 the Brazilian market was opened to imports and the small manufacturers simply went bust. ALDEE didn't give up and switched to racing. It proved very competitive in long distance racing due to its light weight and ended up selling many units to privateers:

A transverse, rear-engined version of the small coupe was developed, which later gave birth to an open-cabin prototype and later even spawned a series championship:

That's a brilliant little thing. I like the way it looks long and swoopy from the front quarter, and then very compact from side on.

Pretty much a Polo saloon, although has a longer wheelbase. Uses the same MQB-A0 platform. Called the Lavida XR in China and Sold as a near identical Skoda Slavia (corporate nose and tail lights).

I know someone who has 3, yes three, of these!

He's started stockpiling parts now. I believe he has a few gearboxes stashed away also. And what is more amazing - he bought 2 of them brand new! Then bought another second hand for his kids. That's commitment to the weird!

Kia EV9.

Saw one yesterday - had no idea they existed.

Looked pretty cool head on.

Where do I hand in my PH members card?

I saw an absolutely vile looking newish van today.

From the shoddy looking badges on the back it’s apparently an SAIC Motor LDV V 80 van.

What a bloody awful looking thing, but completely fitting of the LDV badge after turds like the Sherpa, the Pilot, the Convoy, and the Maxus… which appears to be what it’s based of

Amazing that SAIC makes the MG 4 which is a good car and them also churns out this crap:

If you think they look cool check out the Hyundai Santa Fe

It looks cartoonishly evil!

There's also the KGM (Ssangyong) Torres EVX trying to muscle in on the Korean act.

Not at all - I think that both Kia and Hyundai make some extraordinarily distinctive and good looking cars . If only Jaguar had an ounce their design flair , instead of issuing models you can't tell apart , and endless pastiches of past glories .Both of them .

I noticed the other day whilst browsing Autotrader that KGM was a new marque listed in the drop down, and had to check what they were.

https://www.kgm-motors.co.uk/

Not sure why they needed to rebrand, the name isn't the most off putting part of their offering.

They still haven't cracked making a decent looking car then?

Certainly no worse than an awful lot of other cars on sale, would hardly call the Hyundai above handsome. I actually think it looks alright, although they have certainly stolen a few design ideas from other manufacturers.
