Mine too! What a splendid thing (and with VTR running gear, it will shift I bet). One for the sleeper thread (although someone will no doubt point out that the 4 stud hubs are a giveaway and that Joe Average will immediately clock it has having twice the power it did originally.... rolleyes )
Halfords plastic wheel trims should fix that. I have new wheels on the way, Peugeot 205 steelies which have a bit less offset so I can run 175/60x13 tyres without fouling the rear arches. But wheels apart it's not obvious what I have done to the little car. Even the exhaust is a stock AX GTi system and nicely hidden behind the back bumper.

I just popped over to your Retro Rides thread to see the updates - oh I like that a LOT! Nice work on the headlight adjusters too!

Any shedders here who have/have had a Renualt around 2010 ever encountered this error?

Fault code DF008 Clutch Position Sensor Circuit. I asked the garage to run a diagnostics when my Grand Scenic was in for a coil spring change and that code came back. I currently get a 'check parking break' error which I can turn off temporarily with the switch under the driver's footwell and naturally the parking brake works fine.

Three separate sensors / switches on the clutch pedal! That kind of nonsense is what will kill shedding before long.

I had it looked over by a local BMW tech I use and he reckoned the airbag wasn't leaking, just sagging and wouldn't warrant an MOT fail. Had it in with him for an MOT and after a set of wiper blades, couple of bulbs and tyre advisories it passed. The rear airbags will be replaced once I know it's worth spending money on, I think it wants a glow plug controller as it's smoky for the first minute or two of driving. I've never driven an E39 properly, I'm completely sold on them. It just drives like a softer E46, it doesn't feel like a boat like the E61 535d SE I nearly bought did. Needs a few jobs doing but I'm happy so far, MPG wise it's averaged nearly 40mpg mixed which is astounding. The range shows it's going to do little over 100 miles to £20

Sounds like a decent result.

What was the general opinion on Merc diesels?

I keep finding myself looking at sub 2K models, but am never sure if the engines are good enough or if they all they let you down with electrics / gearbox deaths etc?

I use to run a old ex army series 2a landrover and never bothered about minor/major damage to it even with the limited steering angle i could not even turn into my driveway the road was wide enough for 3 wide lanes I had to do a 3 point turn to turn to get the 90 degrees, I now run a Landrover discovery 4 which has a great small turning circle but with this one I have to watch where I park as the bodywork is perfect (I miss the old series 2a).

Washed the E39 today, so far I'm very happy with it. It's done 80 miles to £20 of diesel with an indicated 30 left, it's near on matching the fuel economy of my 320d, it'll do 50+mpg quite easily

Should I fix the small leak in my power steering, possibly a costly endeavour, or do I just keep putting more fluid in every month. Decisions decisions.
Similar to me pumping a couple of tyres up every other day because the wheels were corroded. In the end I shelled out £200 quid as I was getting pissed off having to pump them up in the wind and rain. Was planning on keeping the car for 6 months and it had just been MOTed.

Sheddy V50 must know its neck in on the block as, following several weeks on zero use, I took it on a car parts retrieving mission the other day... simple 110 mile motorway round trip. Drive great, which makes me even more loathed to part with it however randomly, and if cruising at 75mph+ it would switch off the turbo... turn the car off and back on and all is well again. No warning lights, no other issues so I'm thinking maybe a boost solenoid playing up or mass air flow meter. Will get the diagnostic tool on it but with no EML, may not be as simple as that. Maybe I'll keep it a bit longer.

What's the issue?
Clutch position sensor is a LVDT type thing, and detects the position of the bite point via the ABS wheel speed. Handbrake then uses the bite point to release automatically at the right time.
Clutch position sensor is well known (to us), as being a common failure item bringing up parking brake errors.
It's likely the parking brake auto function will not work quite as correctly as it did before. But you might not actually notice this either.

I don't like the sound of that!

I’ve seen that. I don’t think it’s too bad. Obviously take into consideration the size and weight of the car. Has anyone owned one?
