Last time I checked, police / cameras give points for breaking the law, not having a yellow car...

Can't comment. Never had a yellow car. Way too council.

This 'council' expression some of you seem to love reveals more about those who use it than it does those it's aimed at.

Mine are black on an M140i.

Nothing council about it, possibly a touch drug dealerish if I do say so myself but I like them and they're a factory option so tough on anyone who doesn't like them smile

Hmm, I'll apologise in advance as it's impossible to post what's coming next without appearing to be a patronising tosser. That's not intended, however, you've missed the point of what I want from the Evo on almost every level. It's not a great looking car to start with ( imo ), and black tends to help with offsetting that. The other reason I chose a black one is because when it was new, an Evo received more than enough attention, and an eye catching colour was something I was happy to do without. I wanted the car, not the kind of attention that driving it as intended can generate. Therefore, it's also deliberately not noisy, has no decals, and barely any badges. So far, so good, I drive it like I stole it when possible, clean license thus far. Plus, I happen to like black cars, which helps.

None taken about your opinion of the wheels, but if you know anything about the brand, you'll know they're also exceptionally lightweight, with the obvious benefits that brings. The difference in unsprung weight is significant enough to be noticeable. The design was a secondary consideration, fortunately I don't find them offensive. They were used, and came recently refurbished in black. I almost returned them to silver, but I'm glad now I didn't, as it just adds to the general " as under the radar as it's possible to get in an Evo " approach. Given your kind comments about them, it's a bit ironic that you should complain about them being black. The " cack design " would be easier to see in silver, so, ironically, I appear to have got something right by doing something wrong in your eyes!

I have no argument to give with regard to the amber lights other than I prefer it without them. Fortunately, it's mine, and I get to make that decision. If it's any consolation, everything else I own has silver wheels and amber lights!

You are genuinely the first person to criticise the cars appearance to that degree in the 15 years I've owned it, and it's looked like that for many of them. " " Evil " is usually peoples first reaction, which, given how friendly it is to drive, is a bit of a contradiction really. Still, opinions vary! smile

Thanks for posting, I found it quite amusing, and despite the above outpouring ( I felt an explanation might help, didn't realise I'd gone on about it this long though! ), I've had the car long enough to be quite relaxed about criticism of it, as I'm more bothered about how quickly it can get around a corner.

Sorry for the long post.
I still think it belongs in the council thread.

A great explanation followed by a derogatorily comment, well done.

I did have black wheels but changed back to silver as I thought they didn’t give the car a good look. Each to ones own but generally they make a car look a little evil and hides the brake dust as a bonus hence why i use them for my track wheels!

I had the wheels done after I picked it up, didn't look right with silver ones.

Completely black wheels on anything almost always look terrible. Ends up looking like a hovercraft. Gunmetal almost always better.

But if you really need some black, you’ll need some fully baller dished wheels with a gloss black lip and matte face. Note: gloss black lip and bronze face also acceptable.

Most of the motors here look like st need for speed rejects.

For me black wheels just remind me of those cars that drive round without wheelhubs.

Greys are must better looking.

Mine are factory and I quite like them as they match the roof and provide some contrast to the white paintwork.

I don't think the silver centre caps are helping that black evo out, kinda look like those vintage Matchbox cars which had the solid silver axle protruding through the centre's of the wheels.

The wheels need to be darker than the tyres for it to look any good, which is why so many are anthracite/ dark grey.

Still, jet black helped sell loads of those "limited edition" sh*tbox Corsa's (so there's a big market out there when Mr Evo comes to sell up laugh )

My winter wheels are a right mess, need blasting and re-painting. Was thinking black instead of silver but gun metal may be a compromise.

I like them on a bright coloured car, yellow, orange or white for example, but don't think black wheels always work on a black car.

I've had a few black cars and put aftermarket wheels on, but always went with silver to contrast the bodywork.

Just my opinion of course wink

Chav/Failed Footballer/Drug dealer-coloured wheels are quiet the theme in my house too, as it turns out..

Looks spot on imo, a good example of when it works.

I don’t think they’d look right in black on this (winter wheels on)
