Supermarket car park, absolutely petrified
Discussion
I am not too precious about my car, but not wanting it to acquire more scars than necessary, and having observed how lame most drivers are, I pick my spaces carefully; single, with a kerb one side, or those with nothing parked either side, and then park as far to the left as possible, without encroaching into the adjacent space. Few will attempt to park to my left, I am less likely to be damaged from the right, and having some physical limitations (but not enough to blag a blue badge), this gives me enough room to get in and out.

2 incidents spring to mind.
Years ago I drove an old Punto. Knackered and not at all precious about it. Nipped into Tesco leaving then 8 year old daughter reading her comic in the front seat. Came back to a sobbing child and my car pushed 4ft out of the space. She told me the woman behind had rammed into the car hard enough to move it, got out, locked up and walked off. Fortunately Punto bumpers at the time were huge and local garage established no damage done, but how do you hit a car that hard and not realise?
More importantly was your daughter OK after such an impact?!Years ago I drove an old Punto. Knackered and not at all precious about it. She was fine, just really frightened because she didn't know what was happening. From what she told me the car had pushed mine, to this day I don't know how the woman driving it didn't A. feel the resistance or B. Notice the horrific GREEN Punto in front of her, but there you go.I ended up putting a call over the tannoy for her and she was genuinely oblivious to what she'd done.
I don't see that accepting that a car will not stay perfect is incompatible with thinking that people should take care not to damage other people's property - nor that "it's just a lump of metal" is an acceptable excuse for other people to behave like that. I wonder how they'd like people to walk dogst over their carpets?

I'd like to do that if you have anyone in mind, lol.rambo19 said:

Garden centres are even worse!
Whenever I drive a truck I aren't precious about where I park it. Theres little to dent and other truck drivers are careful. I can't ever remember being that close my cab door would cause a dent mind, perhaps south mimms or clackett lane services when its really busy. Garden centres are even worse!
This happened a few years ago.
Woman left a note (thankfully) although it was a car park full of CCTV and one that you have to offer your numberplate to.
My daily is an ML63 and it's got a few battle scars. For the most part I'm not fussed about an extra door ding here and there, naturally if I came out to find the bumper hanging off I'd be very pissed off, but I bought a slightly (cosmetically) tatty example for that reason alone. Same reason I don't take my Mini shopping, because if I found a door ding on that I'd probably go apoplectic - hence it's never gone to a supermarket in my ownership.

It's a shame they can't make panels out of spring steel so that no denting is possible! You'd still get paint damage but that's comparatively easy to repair.
Plastic panels on some cars offered this advantage, though it seems they can just shatter if it's extremely cold.InitialDave said:

Advantage of my disco 3 over a newer disco 4, which has the colour coded bumpers and arches, that and my side steps have been great at catching the wildly swung doors in the car park
what's irritating is having to park in a minuscule space and someone in a small city car comes and parks on the edge of the one next to my drivers door rather than the middle of theirs - swear it's deliberate... though landrover parking rules mean that most of the time in supermarkets there will be a couple of others parked at the far-end of the car park near mine when I get back from shopping

You can guarantee if you park as far away as possible you will come out to somebody parked next to you,
Asda MK has about 600 spaces, happens every time.
I went there at 3am once (I work nights) parked slap bang in the middle of all the spaces, 3 cars in the car park. came out somebody in the space next to me.
I don’t think you realise, some people will deliberately park next to those cars parked further away to wind up the owners.Asda MK has about 600 spaces, happens every time.

(Not me I’d hasten to add)

Yes perhaps, and how very sad. But I think it's done essentially through herd instinct, and probably unconsciously. (Not me I’d hasten to add)
