Yeah I read that too, still would feel better if a human told me directly what was going on.

There is so much weirdness here. People have ordered cars. They will arrive.

I personally think this car is the last genuine performance car that will be made for the masses. Its exciting, yet sad.

I think Toyota massively underpriced this car tbh.
When I bought my GT86 in 2013 for £26k new that equates to in 2021 to £33k in 2021 using BoE calculator so I guess conservatively £35k -£38k would have been reasonable starting price. I wouldn’t have said that was too punchy??

Funny thing that I am replacing another car I purchased in 2011 a Morgan 3 wheeler which was £30k in 2011 and my spec that I have just placed last month is standing me at £52k (v BoE calculator £40k). I know apples and pears as totally bottom up redesign the Morgan is hopefully offering me.

When/if Toyota release 2023 cars you can guarantee they will not be at £30k.

I tend to agree that the asking price has contributed to its success, I think many might not have bulked at 33-36k given we are getting the higher spec car in the uk.....

Surprisingly cheap, considering the increased costs in raw materials and shipping. It seems like other European countries need to pay around 5-6k eur more for a premium car.

The orders for 2023 are open in the US, and the price increase was pretty small, but they might have a different strategy in the uk of course.

Yeah it will be more, especially as Toyota GB marketing department is monitoring these forums and will reading all the comments from people saying they will crawl over broken glass to get one and pay another £5-8K for the privilege. laugh

I would say one of the main reasons it sold so well is that it’s a just a very well priced car. If it was 34995 instead of 29995 would it have sold out in 90 mins? Maybe, but maybe not. They are pretty well specced too, with no options available at all.
Of course, no-one else is selling a similar car now, and probably never will sadly, NA, manual, rwd, coupe, a real handbrake even ! So this is clearly a factor too. We still have the mx-5, but it’s not so practical as a daily driver for most people.

I guess Toyota can put it out at this price because it’s not like they have spent loads on a new platform/tech, like the Yaris GR, but instead tried to perfect an existing model. This of course involves investment but I guess not as much, therefore the Yaris is more expensive.

Still, I think it’s a great value car and I’m sure will be great to drive too, for just a few grand more than a fiesta ST (another great car!)

Nearly 2 weeks and I've heard nothing since the confirmation email on the 20th, they were quick enough to take the deposit though

I've not heard anything either, but I have to say it's not really bothering me so far. I'm half expecting my delivery date, when I get it, to be next year so anything earlier than that will be a bonus. It seems 2 years worth of cars were sold in an hour and a half, so surely there could be a fair wait in store for some people in the queue?

The bit they haven’t confirmed is how many cars weee 2 years worth.

I got a follow up email yesterday confirming the allocation but no delivery date as yet. If it comes before Christmas I’ll be happy as the current car (the fabled 840i lease deal) goes back in early December at the latest.

Both this and the Yaris are keenly priced (vs say a 230i which has a huge amount of platform sharing going on). I’d have happily paid a bit more for a version with the Yaris brakes but they’re available as official aftermarket bolt ons so not the end of the world. Just not quite as cost effective as having a factory option.

I'm in the "it can't be that hard to let us know what's going on camp". With most processes I would expect some form of communication after handing over £1000. They must know the situation by now, so why not let people who have handed over the money know what that situation is.

Back in 1990 you could have bought either of these 2 sporty saloons with a 235bhp 4-pot engine of around 2.5litres, decent handling and a manual box but inflation adjusted they would now be £100k or more. Second hand they can go for much more

That's one car that I had made a comparison with too, along with things like the 968CS. I've ordered one and been playing around on zeperfs to see how it compares.

Can't wait.

Yes, it will be interesting to see if the UK cars are anywhere near as fast as the US testers got - they often have rolling starts for the acceleration runs which gives great figures compared to European ones. Be great to see if it can outsprint the old Cosworths

It’s not exactly hard for old vs new. A fiesta ST is very comparable to an escort cosworth on paper.

I'm in the dark too, heard nothing back. Dealer says the ten processing the orders is very small. But his long did it take to pieces 400 orders?

The M3 was an expensive car for back in 1990 I reckon. For some reason I was expecting it to be cheaper than that.

Remember that was the top of the range 2.5 litre one with GR86 equalling output ( around 235bhp ) Lee

The ordinary 2.3 litre one was a lot cheaper
