VLN (German endurance race championship at Nurburgring/Nordschleife) overall as well as production cup (unmodified cars) winner in the 2011 series after 10 grueling endurance races can not be that bad?

There are several groups in the VLN (I believe 27 in 2012) with an average of 200 cars starting each race. The production cars (serieswagen) category is near-stock. No factory development whatsoever. The overall winner is calculated based on a formula which includes the size of the group the car is competing (for e.g. a 2nd place in a group of 5 cars scores equal to a 1st place in a group of 3 cars) and the results achieved over the entire season. This system is proven over the years to be fair for a race with such a diverse participation. So, a standard car like Z4 can come on top of factory supported Porsche GT3 RSRs, Audi R8s, Mercedes SLSs or BMW Motorsport Z4s.Edit: I'll add to that: The above is a great result but I'm pissed that Porsche won't develop Cayman as a racing platform. We all know why though.

Owned a Z4MC and Cayman S and easily preferred the Z4. The Cayman makes any idiot a driving God, and while I am quite heavenly, a driving God Im not.
Something which became patently obvious when I jumped in the seat of the Z4 from the Cayman, the car doesn't flatter and requires a comical firm hand to drive fast. Once up to speed it's was just as fast my 06 cayman on A-B roads, Straight roads its even quicker.
I'm not particular partisan for either brand, but I'd have a Z4M Coupe again and I don't feel the same way about the Porsche

I am an owner of a Z4M Coupè and of a Z3 Coupé 3.0 and previously I owned a Lotus Exige.
My personal opinion belongs just on a question. Why if you talk about a 911 you always listen to people saying that you have to learn it to drive proprerly as it has(without any doubt) a wrong wheight distribution. Why the same couldn't apply for the Z4M? Someone here said before that you have to know this car a little to exploit his character and I totally agree. Only after some time you can understand how it behaves and how to have proper fun with it.
In addition to that do not forget that this car is very very sensible to a proper alignment of toe and camber and little adjustemnts can make big differences.
I am very happy to have a difficult car to drive and to understand, it makes me more happy when I discover what I can achieve (mainly on track) with it.

Hmm agreed that in certain locations they seem very popular (a number in Edinburgh both Coupes and Roadsters which is a bit like Focus RS very few in Farnham where i also live but 10's up in the Edinburgh/Dunfermline area) however are you sure your not seeing vinilla coupes. Think its been covered but i think there is less than a 1000 Z4MC on UK streets so not exactly on par with Caymans

Yup, just 550 M coupes and 617 M roadsters were sold in the UKThe rarest of all is the one alpine white M Roadster, known as The Unicorn. There are several fake unicorns with white wraps though

Sounds like they are more rare in the UK than the M per those statistics.

I may well be seeing the 3.0's as well, but I am seeing a lot. I was interested in them before as the Mrs always loved the GT6 and when someone mentioned the Z4 Coupe looked like a modern equivalent I did consider one. On reading this thread it really suprised me about how apparently rare they are as I didn't think they were, since then on my daily commute I've been looking at them more (that is only 18miles from Berkshire border to Oxford) & I see plenty of them, at least 4 or 5 a day. They are a nice looking car just the very end of the nose from the side profile that lets it down for me.
