I almost wish they didn't release concept versions prior to the real models = I am sure if I just saw this design fir the first time I would be blown away, but after poring over the CX16 for months, it takes the wind away a little. However, I keep clicking on articles linking to it so its definitely growing on me. Love the rear end (lights designed to resemble Jaguar pupils?)...

I disagree. The rear lights of the F pay homage to the series 1 E type.theaxe said:
Not sure if this has been posted already but here's a link to a configurator
I have just specced one and the whole thing feels like you are on the Porsche configurator, it is excellent. They even do nice seats with full contrast stitching, carbon fibre external parts etc. - very impressive!
Not too impressed with the selection of exterior colours though, how many shades of grey and silver do you need? Where are the blues, yellows and the viper green?
Specced a V8 up to £90k ish so, options are far cheaper than Porsche equivalents. The Meridian sound system got alot of plaudits on the other Jags and it is here also.
I am now excited about this car, lets see what time she does around Hockenheim.....

Looks great (or at least the coupe does) but it's too expensive.
After the initial fuss has died down, we'll see large discounts to shift them.
Or they have alredy factored in an average discount of 25 percent in the inflated prices. As the european markets fall flat the average discounts have risen to historic highs. They prepared for the situation and keep dealers happy...After the initial fuss has died down, we'll see large discounts to shift them.

That looks quite favourable to the F-Type if you ask me. Okay, not so when compared to the Boxster, but people don't just buy based on speed. In fact, for a lot of people today it is all about the looks and image.

I'll be going against the grain by saying I find this an utterly uninspiring effort from Jag. Part Maserati, part Nissan, part Spyker... If this is a natural successor of the E-type its a FAIL.... it's not substantially different from anything else out in the market techinically, atheistically its uninspiring and its certainly not inexpensive for what it is. If it was 40K new, then it would cause a few raised eyebrows in Germany, Japan, and Italy, but as it stands big opportunity missed.
You have obviously been discussing it with the above ppl this week then? Oh wait, sorry, this is the internet, of course you havent.Whereas I was in Firenze and Pisa yesterday and in southern Germany today. Being British and amongst engineers the conversation on both days turned to the release of the "new E-Type". The Italians had a young Micra driving woman, late 20s and the Germans a middle aged lady with a new BMW 3 series. The F-Type was met with complete approval by all members of both groups I was with, inc 2 very different ladies.
It would seem that you are in fact incorrect given the primary evidence available.

It does look absolutely stunning! but I just cant help feeling let down in the pricing.
Really thought this would be a porsche rival, but with the BHP and price it'd be hard to walk past the new boxster (which itself is gorgeous).
As said in a few years should make a second hand bargain and hopefully i'll be in a position by then to buy one
Which sodding Boxster is packing 380 ponies, let alone 5 just shy of 500 ????????????Really thought this would be a porsche rival, but with the BHP and price it'd be hard to walk past the new boxster (which itself is gorgeous).

This thing is aimed at the 911, not the Boxster/Cayman.

The 991 Cabrio kerb-weight ranges from 1525kg (Carrera manual) right up to 1610kg (Carrera 4S PDK). The F-type weighing roughly the same (despite having to carry a supercharger and ancillaries such as intercoolers) is right where it needs to be.
And two less seats. This should have been Boxster weight in V6 form, IMO. Jaguar may claim this is a sports car, but if it drives like one I'll be astonished (and no I don't consider the 911 a sports car - it's a GT and has been for years).
To me, this looks like nothing more than a slightly re-positioned replacement for the XK. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but it's not really what I was expecting from all the hype.

Oh, you mean you were listening to motoring journalists.
The 911 has always been a sports GT car. It was conceived as one.
