When I was responsible for buying cars for our business, I wouldn't consider manufacturers without good facility to service and support the vehicle. If the nearest dealership to one of our guys was 50 miles away, that's no good. I didn't want people spending 3 work hours driving to and from dealerships.
When your cars are doing 1500 miles a week, trips to the dealer are often and you don't want to waste time and money driving to hens teeth such are Subaru dealers.
The dealer coverage is pretty good, not sure where you are to have a 1.5 hr drive to the nearest dealer. 50% of fleet vehicles are purchased by fleet leasing companies who are unlikely to use the main dealer for servicing anyway. When your cars are doing 1500 miles a week, trips to the dealer are often and you don't want to waste time and money driving to hens teeth such are Subaru dealers.
As mentioned the reason behind them not being suitable for fleet use is the poor fuel economy and BIK charge. Not many co car drivers would be willing to pay £300+ tax per month for an Impreza when then can get a 1 series diesel with M sport plastic bits for under £130.

In an ideal world Subaru would make a 7 seater 4x4 wrc car designed by an italian design studio with an economical robust engine and high quality interior ... But they don't ..... Maybe they should
Oh dear, you are quite the weird one.I`d rather wear a baseball cap as do many professional people in reality in Summer etc (you seem to think otherwise) than have the odd taste in cars you do.

This thread was doing fine till a BMW owner chimed in with "Chav Tat".
I know you shouldn't tar all BMW owners with the same brush but this particular comment is used so often by them that's it's become really old and tired and i generally try and just ignore it.
If you bothered to read my posts you'd see that I'm genuinely sorry to see the impreza die in the uk pointing out that the majority of potential buyers were not buying because the impreza has a chav image and is to most eyes pig ugly.I know you shouldn't tar all BMW owners with the same brush but this particular comment is used so often by them that's it's become really old and tired and i generally try and just ignore it.

I don't think any impreza owner would if being honest disagree with that observation. Though beauty is in the eye of the beholder....
Pointing out that a particular car has a poor image here in the uk and that has caused it to have poor sales is just being honest .
The fact that many previous impreza or potential impreza owners have bought other brands comparing those other brands to the impreza and referencing chavs driving with their baseball caps on "and we all know that they Have! " its just the comic truth and part of why here in the uk the impreza sales have collapsed.
Harry Enfield would confirm that.... Comic element.
As for what others own and drive no need to bring that into this thread it's a tread about the failure of the impreza not the failure of other brands making a comparison is as far as it shoud go.
...
Am I embarrassed to be driving an X5 yes but less than I would be driving a people carrier or an impreza .
But as explained its a matter of choosing the least bad apple .....
In an ideal world Subaru would make a 7 seater 4x4 wrc car designed by an italian design studio with an economical robust engine and high quality interior ... But they don't ..... Maybe they should would probably sell as well as the ugly profitable X5 ..
I have yet to see a serious comment from you on why your choice has anything to do with driving the cars you have, neither dynamics, performance etc etc
Thats why you are getting, quite rightly, a hard time from the Subaru drivers.
I don't drive one but I appreciate their comments and love for a true classic far more than your 'image' based non PH nonsense.

It's proper Backwards Village on this thread ....... keep wearing your cap the wrong way round mate... you're beyond me ..
You are beyond stupid if you think thats what most owners are doing.

Beyond irony .......
Do you honestly think not many people wear a cap in summer. Only "chavs" ?
Again beyond stupid if you think that, perhaps all Americans, Orientals etc are "chavs" too as they often sport a cap.
I think you need to grow up.

Both great cars, rubbish interiors
Interior on our old Impreza wasn't pretty, but it certainly was hard wearing, functional and effective.More this:
Only thing I found about the Impreza is that you really have to wind them up to get some go out of them.

Sad news, but inevitable I fear.
The last-of-the-line WRX STIs were a bit of a return to form, but unless you were in very slippery conditions the only thing they really offered over the current uber-hatches was character.
As for the BMW, well it is phenomenal value for money. You can spec them to way over £30k, but there's not a lot you'd consider essential that isn't covered in the £29k-ish base price and, officially, the WRX STi costs £33k or thereabouts.
Based on recent experience of both, I'd say the BMW was the quicker car on a dry road. It's also comfier, better built, more refined, nicer to listen to and (probably) significantly cheaper to run. But the Subaru has that fantastic 'rally car for the road' feel that makes the BMW seem a tiny bit anodyne in comparison. I can see why people would still pick it over an M135i or a Focus ST.

I'm most amused by people defending X5. Tell me, what is the point of that vehicle? Or most other SUVs for that matter?
They are next to useless off road, and that would be the only reason for extra ground clearance.
They are not bigger than saloons (I've compared X5 to 5-series), in fact often the contrary is true.
They have higher driving position - granted, BUT people who drive them seem to have trouble keeping in a lane...
In short, X5 is a heavy, ugly vehicle that performs worse than equivalent saloon car. AWD is available in other BMW cars (530xd anyone?) so not an argument.
Audi offers plenty of quattros and even Merc can kit you out with a AWD model if you want to, so no worries about your ski holidays in France or whatever.
I appreciate people have a choice, but I don't understand why people would choose inferior things on purpose (and pay more for them...)

The M135 is an impressive car, if it had the looks of a Brera or 159 it would be nigh on untouchable, but it's by far the worst looking car in it's segment, just my opinion but one shared by a few othersThe last-of-the-line WRX STIs were a bit of a return to form, but unless you were in very slippery conditions the only thing they really offered over the current uber-hatches was character.

I cant argue with RWD and a 300hp + straight 6, but the looks are a massive turn off for me

Nope it became the attack the guy and his Garage who points out the reasons why the car which is no longer for sale in the UK "on this thread" is no longer for sale in the UK, thread.Your name calling and stereotyping is what got you in trouble with the posters. You can't expect anyone to take you seriously or respect your opinions when you have posted like you have.
If you can't see the error of your ways, then all hope is lost.
