RE: 250 orders for new TVR
Discussion
...which is precisely what I'm decrying. Mr Edgar is very much mistaken if he thinks he can sell a Ford-engined tourer for 75k and make a profit. Jensen and Invicta proved you can't. Oh well, it's unlikely it will ever see the light of day anyway. The car doesn't exist yet, nor does the factory...
Got the Car Sept 2015 mag in front of me...
1100kg target weight, 400bhp/tonne, £60k to £90k coupe. Convertible, track car and one make race series to follow. Sold out for year one within days of opening order book.
Engine : Cosworth fettled V8, dry sump.
Edgar quotes : "The V8's base block is one that's made in reasonable numbers, so it'll be reliable".
"Cosworth are dry sumping it, fitting a lightweight flywheel and making it special, with the characteristics we want".
"...big, tuned for torque and have the potential for more power than we need".
"With TVR we're a kind of hybrid, a niche that's British sportscar with a little American muscle".
Just for roverp6b : Speed Six : Emissions compliance beyond 2017 "an insurmountable challenge".
Chassis : Car quote : "Engineered by GMD...tubular steel, reinforced with bonded composite panels to deliver the required rigidity and impact resistance."
Body : Car quote : "mixed-material (likely composites, aluminium and plastics) "
Production : "...be built using Murray's low investment iStream manufacturing process"
Edgar on the Griffith : "One of the most beautiful sportcars ever built. One of the project leaders at Cosworth has a Griffith and it's the perfect car for immersing yourself in TVR, and to get your clothes and skin smelling of unburnt fuel". Sounds like a precat then...
And on Edgar's own Sagaris rear 'plate : "TVR - Power to the People".

I think everyone will agree that LE's concept stands more of a chance of succeeding than yours. andy43 said:

Good stuff, wonder if the V8 is cross plane of flat plane, hoping for a revvy flat plane...1100kg target weight, 400bhp/tonne, £60k to £90k coupe. Convertible, track car and one make race series to follow. Sold out for year one within days of opening order book.

Could be a variation on the flatplane mustang motor?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jp9d-HhblD0
Personally I prefer the sound of a crossplane.

The Cerbera wasn't exactly a safe car crash-wise - I saw what happened when a normal family car hit one at a crossroads at fairly low speed, it wasn't pretty and I don't think the TVR driver lived. Meeting modern safety standards will make it a lot heavier.
If the new TVR ever arrives, and has a V8, it would be better if it was a crossplane - more even torque delivery through the engine revolution and a less tiresome noise.

Yes, that's certainly true enough. I don't exactly feel cocooned in safety in mine. As an aside, what really worries me is the electric door opening after an accident. OK, so it has emergency release handles down in the foot well but as my username suggests I would have no chance of getting to them. Are modern composites not a lot lighter than GRP though? IIRC the Cerb body weighs about 600KG off the chassis. I've seen lumps of more modern stuff being lifted by two blokes so there's some scope there I would think.

I don't think the Cerb crossplane would be much of a starting point for Cosworths breath. Nice solid engine but it's very marginal on emissions. skyrover said:

More Cerbera than Griff, but it'll do

Insurmountable my arse. I also don't believe 1100kg for one moment. If it comes out an ounce under 1400kg I'll be surprised.
1100kg is pure fantasy, I agree. 1250kg would be a useful target. 1400kg is a bit defeatist!fatjon said:
What's so unbelievable about 1100Kg. The Cerbera is a 4 seater (ish) steel backbone chassis with GRP body and a V8 and it comes in around 1040 to 1140 depending on which figures you believe and what day the car was made on.
The 2015 2.0 MX5 is just over 1000kg. The new TVR will be bigger, larger engine, more 'luxurious', etc. which means heavier so 1100kg looks a but unrealistic.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
