Haymarket agrees sale of PistonHeads to CarGurus
Discussion
You only have to take a look at their website and have a gander at their 'research' and 'questions' links to see what pistonheads and its forum will become. Ignore all the corporate bks in their press release as it's just that : a load of bks. It's pretty clear that the forums here will get the chop once they realise there is no way of monetising them because everyone uses ad blockers. This is the whole reason why Haymarket have thrown in the towel. As already noted by others, they don't give a fk about this forum or its community, they just want an established framework to take on Autotrader and the classifieds here fulfils that need. Their goal is to get all the UK dealers parting with large slabs of cash to advertise with them instead of AT and their job is done. The rest of site is surplus to requirements.
There are 2 forums i go on daily, if not spending most of the day on. PH and ARRSE.
https://www.arrse.co.uk/community/
Now for those that dont know ARRSE is a military (mainly Army orientated) forum which like, PH, has different sections relating to certain mil and non-mil aspects. Of course the majority being mil.
But the layout is better than PH and you even get a "like" option!
There is a section called the NAAFI where anything, and i mean ANYTHING goes. Obviously there is a lot of squaddie sense of humour which can be dark but its moderated quite well and very rarely, in fact i dont remember a time a thread was pulled.
Funnily enough a thread was pulled an hour ago in the PH's Supercar section over a company that had gone into liquidation and then a off-shoot had continued with questionable ties to liquidated company.
There are Ad's on ARRSE but they are not intrusive and the forum owners dont seem to be too concerned on what is said on there.
Always said to myself that PH could learn a thing from ARRSE but i think with this new direction, as people have said earlier, PH will disappear unless its extracted by individuals and run like ARRSE.

Sounds like the end of the forum to me, I very much hope I'm wrong though.
Once they look at the wonderful mess that makes up this site, they will quickly realise it's a lot easier to start again. They will have an established name to slowly make their own as they get their name out there.
If they make the classifieds better and create a mobile app for them I can't see any financial benefit in the forums. The only way I can see them continue is on a standard platform which would save a ton of money for a development team so that would mean starting again anyway.
It's a shame because there is nowhere else online that I've ever found with such a varied range of topics in one easy to use place. Reddit is great but I find the format a bit confusing, guess I'll be getting used to it.

Hey, good luck! Please note this appears to be an International Forum - like Evo used to be until they stopped comments. So make sure there's enough to what's published here to attract those from around the world. And there should be plenty of location information so as to push whatever advertisers are paying the way.
This is going to make me sound very old, but just revert everything back to how it was pre Haymarket and that would be just dandy. The classifieds on here now are frankly a sh*t shower compared to what they used to be. The last car I bought I don’t even think I looked at the classifieds on here. Even Gumtree got more of a look in than PH classifieds.
What is great about pistonheads is that I can save the webpage on my phone to read at a later date. I like that has quality writing and not just an article pointing to a video. There are many times when I can't or don't want to watch a film. Like when I am on public transport, times when I don't have headphones, no or poor internet connection or just want to save my data. It give me some interesting information some facts or some entertainment. Please keep more written features and medium to long length articles. Reading pistonheads is so much better than wasting my time looking at facebook.
It was a shame the video show didn't take off but the number of adverts interrupting the entertainment was too much. Also the player hosting the videos often didn't work. We all endure adverts as they pay for programmes but you need to give us something good at the end to put up with them.
