RE: Introducing Strada Magazine

I've been a tech magazine publisher for nearly 30 years and had magazines succeed and fail. I like cars and magazines so subscribe to Evo, Road Rat, Magneto, and something I can't remember the name of that's really up itself. It's A5 with a three-letter name.
Private Motor Club? Owned and edited by a friend of mine (who is also the editor of ClassicDriver.com) and I have contributed to over the years. I was also involved with setting up a new magazine (dedicated to EVs) and have seen how Tim (from PMC) has sweat blood to get investment for it, and so like you have seen some succeed and fail. It can be a heartbreaking thing to let something you love and have poured hours into just die off. But publishing is a tough gig nowadays. Our issue (apart form the cost) is the distribution and having to buy back what doesn't sell. That said, I enjoy Magneto, and whilst I didn't subscribe to Strada, I did buy the first issue. I did enjoy it, but then I also liked Modern Classics, albeit I felt they tended to write through rose-tinted specs!
I received my first issue of Retro.Modern.Classic the other day. Can't say it delivered on the promise for me. Not sure I'll be buying the second issue (if there is one).
Yes PMC. Far too lifestyle for me.
I don't understand the comment on "buying back issues", magazines have always been sale or return, with a 77 day lag between delivering money coming in and payment. This means that, when I was doing newsstand on a monthly, with advertisers paying 60 days after publication, you needed deep enough pockets to finance four issues. If you made it to issue four, the revenue started to come in from issue 1 and you were rolling.
Quarterly is even harder, and we are just taking our magazine - tech, not cars -from quarterly to bi-monthly. I did look at a model of three quarterly titles and doing one a month.

Just had a follow up mail apologising for the mail today and saying that if a refund was previously requested this will be processed. Today was just an automated mail error.
Same here. Called to cancel - "thanks for the offer: hope you pick up some new subs but I just renewed RoadRat, so I'd like to leave please". Mr Helpful Magneto said that Strada data wasn't completely transferred yet, so give it 2 weeks & took my details. 10 mins later i had a "thanks for your sub to Magneto", email. What! I politely protested - "sorry guys you've got this a bit wrong", & 10 minutes later the Subcriptions Manager responded to apologise & confirm it was an automated response that'd crossed its dilithium crystals a bit. Cancellations & refunds will be a couple of weeks, so I just made a note to follow up in 4 weeks if I hadn't heard anything.Phone number I used was on Magneto website. Mr Magneto was v pleasant. Think I might try a couple of issues in the interim & make a decision vs RR next year.

disappointed again. only got 2 emails today saying charged again and welcome. I'll have to check the card later.
not to sure about the magneto mag, I liked Strada but was quite posh for a working class lad like me. magneto looks worse.
loved modern classics and git totally stung when that finished as had just subscribed and then cancelled the credit card so Clint be bothered chasing around for a refund. ended up with Car - and still getting them?! - and they were rubbish. straight to the tea room at work.
I'll prob keep these magneto's for the sake of £22 if it wld be coming out of someone's pocket. assume I'll read it on holiday - oh, that's being taken off me too today.

I enjoyed issue 1 and was sorry to see the message about being unable to take Strava further. Sorry for Nathan and others who put a considerable amount of effort and money into trying to make this work.
I look at it as a new subscription gained that I would likely never have tried out, vs losing all of my money. So I’m grateful to Geoff for taking over the subscriptions as an option.

Agree with your analysis of RetroModernClassic. I won’t buying again. tertius said:
Anyone know if it is possible to still get issue 1 (perhaps one of the 100 or so remaining mentioned in the thread)? Would quite like to see it esp. if it has an article on the 1M.
I bought one over two weeks ago, on the back of the positive reviews in this thread. So far I've only a receipt to show for it. As/when/if it arrives I'll let you know.
Apologies for the unhelpful email that was sent via our subscription bureau yesterday.
As we loaded all of the Strada data into the system it generated the automatic message which everyone received. Hopefully you should now have received a second email to apologise and correct the information.
For everyone that has requested a refund this will be processed in the next few days now that we have all of the information loaded onto the system.
Thank you for your patience!

With regards to issue 1, unfortunately we do not hold any stock of the first issue, so you will need to go back to the Publisher - Eau Rouge to see if they have any available.
If anyone would still like to purchase a copy I believe it is available on the Magazine Heaven website at https://www.magazineheaven.com/strada-magazine.htm...
