Best smoker barges 1-5 large [Vol 17]
Discussion
I am hoping to get down to Duxford on Sunday.
My old V8 Discovery won’t be making another appearance at a barge meet due to a failed MoT test.
I was under the mistaken impression that the quite extensive chassis corrosion would merely be an advisory…
“It’s totally fked, mate. Scrap it.” said the garage man.

That looks a very rare thing indeedIs the straight 6 a reliable unit in these? How does it compare to the smoothness of a BMW 6?
It's a shame the page "using Rubik's cubes to sell cars" doesn't exist still....
Here's a lovely Vauxhall Cavalier Diplomat. The Diplomat part makes me think it would be perfect for CDG....a lovely ride for him.

I found this earlier in the week (only a CL500 though), same price, a bit over thread budget so didn't post it up, I think it looks stunning:

That’s an absolutely cracking looking car! Seems an outrageous batgain to my eyes - had I not got myself deep in with the SL over the last few months I’d be knocking on his door for that. https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/10963109?c...

Although the 4.7 bi-turbo may be the peach of this range I wouldn’t feel hard done by with a normal 500, especially at almost half the asking price. Someone get this bought!

Looks pretty clean if slightly uninspiring in all the greys.
LS values are all over the place. Loads sit unsold for 4K - not surprised this got snapped up. If I had seen that I would be tempted to gamble unseen. I hate grey but it suits it.

OK Mercedes beards. What do I need to know about an 04 270cdi clk. Mot history looks decent and there seems no visible rot...which is kinda unusual i think? Up for about a grand, thinking about it to replace our manky old z3 which will not see another mot.
I ran one for a couple of years, nice car but can need a bit of upkeep. Very economical on motorway and will do 30mpg around town. They rust on the rear arches, even on the facelift ones.Usual 270cdi niggles such as inlet manifold and swirl flaps breaking. Pricey to pay someone to repair and very time consuming to do yourself. Block heater can break causing a parasitic battery drain. can be disconnected but then takes age to warm up in the morning!
Very comfortable and the 270 is a nice engine when warmed up, plenty of power and well suited to the 5g gearbox.
It depends what you want it for, if it's something cheap to last a year or so with no upkeep it will be ok, they will rarely let you down but if you want to keep it and make it nice it will probably need some TLC to make it nice. I replaced all the suspension on mine including rear springs which are very common to snap and quite hard to spot.
I know them pretty well so feel free to ask away!

I think that means it can be fixed relatively easily, doesn't it?https://richardschassis.co.uk/Land-Rover-Discovery... although they seem to be available for a lot less elsewhere like this one here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/132535606295?chn=ps&n...

I know that when the body is lifted off all sorts of horrors will be exposed.
It could end up being a massive amount of work.
Also, my garage man is getting near retirement and doesn’t want to these sorts of jobs anymore.
I'm afraid I won't be able to make it tomorrow, chaps - just rented a garage to start putting things in before moving house (once work tell me where I'm allowed to live). Long term, though, good news as there should be more parking space for hopeless heaps*
By the way, if anyone would like to throw a bucket of cold water over me in exchange for giving me a 124, I'm game!
