A budget mini-barge. £750 with the v6 and 77k miles. http://www.countryclassics-cars.com/car/rover-45-2...
Under-rated motors, and a snip at that price.I was looking around that budget, and 90% of what you'll find is over-priced knackered tat.
If you're an average sized guy or gal this is comfortable safe motoring on the cheap
(I however, am a big fella & needed more space, hence the Mondy est)

That's why I clicked on the link for it in the first place. I really like his Youtube channel! Forgive a self-quoting cross-post of an out of budget car, but I know that old Mercedes are appreciated here, and this old hector might appeal to some of the thread-asylum.

Would I be right in thinking a 2003 525i with 61K on, but a mere 6 service stamps, one every 10K, seems a little light?
My FiL's E60 is condition based, and goes years between seeing anyone, but he's tight as a badger's jacksie too!
Seems fair enough to me. I service the CL every 10,000 miles, well the garage does.My FiL's E60 is condition based, and goes years between seeing anyone, but he's tight as a badger's jacksie too!

There was company in Germany, doing a resto mod on those, Modern Merc V8 and appropriate suspension and brakes etc. Very very cool. 300K or there abouts. Definitely a lottery car for me.This:

The actual service schedule is only a small part of the overall maintenance requirements on an E39 now that they are between 15 and 23 years old. But just for the record, what you describe is likely to be exactly what the car has itself demanded according to what BMW programmed the on-condition system to require. 10K oil and fillter changes are perfectly fine on a petrol E39 that is used in any sort of vaguely reasonable way, providing the correct synthetic oil is used. So if the mileage is genuine then that's fine. My FiL's E60 is condition based, and goes years between seeing anyone, but he's tight as a badger's jacksie too!
As always with an E39 of 15 years' vintage though the real questions are:
1. Is it free from corrosion, and is the interior all good and working correctly?
2. How much of the other stuff has been done, the things that are not on any manufacturer's service schedule?
If it's tidy, has evidence of being well treated and drives properly and all the obvious stuff is working well then I see no concerns about it having being serviced according to BMW's own requirements.
But that doesn't mean you should not expect to put some money in. At 15 years of age, even with low miles,I would be looking to drop and replace all the fluids and hoses and buy it a water pump and possibly a radiator. It will definitely have seen brake work but how recently? The suspension rubbers have either been replaced or will be in need of replacement, purely down to age. Depending on how much salt it's seen it may need brake and/or fuel lines. If it's automatic it would benefit from a transmission fluid change.
You know. All the usual stuff that isn't in the service schedule.

Glasgow is a fiddle to get to from any East or West coast train stop though. Surely thread form is to get the train and buy blind? Sounds tremendous.
I'm happy to have a look at any Glasgow cars for fellow threadists. Granted I don't know much about the ls400 but I'm sure I could have a fair crack at spotting a dog.CharlesdeGaulle said:

Oh dear, the same as the 75 then. Which was a shame.
Up until 2 months ago, I had a diesel Rover 75 saloon (BMW 4 pot 2.0L Diesel)Wonderfully reliable and a lovely strong and sturdy car - would still have it if I hadn't needed a hatch or estate
(if I had a bigger driveway it would still be here)

That's how most of the cars I like look best.
Ha Ha - original pics were hi-res 10Mp but this site can't take 'emA show winner she wasn't (85%) - that extra 10% that makes a winner (95/100) takes hundreds of man hours (I've yet to see a 100% car)
Compared to most of the battle-scarred crap around, she was a minter (a lot of car for the price of a mid-range telly)
