The NSF hard line on mine split somewhere you can't see the pipe to inspect it, giving me almost no braking performance as I barreled towards a roundabout at a brisk pace. It wasn't near any insulation or any moisture retaining material so it's a mystery why it split there. The Man found a few other very dicey looking bits of pipe on the car and replaced them with copper, so hopefully it won't try to kill me (with that method) again.
Car was 16 years old with 155k at the time, pipes looked all original.
Doesn't sound good! I'll have to have a detailed inspection of mine at some point, my friend who owned the car previously to me did spray the underside with Waxoyl (or similar) and the last MOT I took it for I had the generic 'Brake pipe corroded or covered in grease' but I think that was referring to being covered in grease rather than corrosion, I hope. Mine's 15 years old currently, but it does have 215k miles. I've got a feeling they've been replaced once already, as looking back through the MOT history, it had advisories for a corroded brake pipe at both 115k and 150k miles (2010 and 2012 respectively) which didn't reoccur in later MOTs. Car was 16 years old with 155k at the time, pipes looked all original.
I'll also be checking my fuel tank straps, I didn't even realise that was a weakness. Is it easy to check just by having a look underneath while the car is on the ground?

I’m a bit stunned by just how much car £2k gets you. E320 CDI Avantgarde. It’s done 152k but drives beautifully and in terms of condition if someone told me it had done half that I would believe it. So I bought it.
OK so it’s from the era when Merc had allegedly forgotten how to build cars, but what could possibly go wrong?
Anyone want a Volvo 850 T5 estate?

No. Some things just are the way they are. Stratos. Narrow-track 911s (I'm looking at you, Singer) Fulvia.Do what you like with an Interceptor, mind
One for the W124 beards... my 1989 W124 260E has just passed its MOT with no advisories (yay!), but with the help of a bodge to make sure the blowing exhaust didn't fail it. The Man says the whole exhaust needs replacing, ideally in the next couple of months.
I have looked on Autodoc as suggested by Jonathan and they have a choice of items for the middle and rear sections (Polmo, MTS, Vegaz and Eberspacher for the middle, Walker, Bosal and Eberspacher for the rear) but nothing for the front. Euro Car Parts have middle and rear from Klarius, but nothing for the front.
Any help would be appreciated for the finding the front part and deciding which manufacturer is best for the middle and rear (tempted by Eberspacher).
ETA it's part number 124 490 6919 that I need

Hi all
Thought this might be the best place to ask, being a little vague as its not meant to be an advert! I have an old barge that is 100% this thread, I got it 10 years ago in thread budget with a years MOT for use for a trip to France thinking if it lasted a year it would do and it's still going!
I checked how many miles I did last year and it was something silly like 650 so I am struggling to justify keeping it
it has 9 months MOT but an advisory list that reads like war and peace - nothing too major just a lot of it! To really get the most out of it it really needs a new set of tyres, lights polishing (again), coolant system overhaul (prob a good hint to what car it is!) and intermittent air bag fault sorting.
Bodywork is also not great got some dings, few bits of rust and some lacquer peel - its also done 187k miles which is 100k more than when some autoboxes have failed on this make and model!. so I am not sure what to do with it. I guess I could get a quote for an overhaul - I would think it would need a few thousand throwing at it to get it to the point where its usable daily - and I just don't have the need or the disposable at the moment.
Do you think marking it as spares or repair even though it is a runner with MOT - listing all known faults and putting it up as a no reserve eBay auction is the best way to move it on? - I am not fussed how much money I really get for it, it owes me nothing and although I have made it sound like a complete basket case it does seem too good for scrap really and I am quite sentimental about it! But equally I want to make sure that the last time I see the person who buys it is the time they drive it away - not 2 weeks later if the gearbox gives up
any advice most welcome!

£491.50 from MB! Robbing bds.
I'm curious as to where you got the price from - is there a lookup site somewhere, or do you have a dealer that responds quickly to parts requests? tiger roll said:

I just checked the level, they garage must have checked it fairly hot as none came out of the drain at the correct temperature. I topped it up 600ml, still nothing, topped up another 700ml and was then able to drain 400ml back out at the correct temp. It's spot on now but I had to put an additional 900ml in over the garage assuring me it was OK.
Sympathies. Will you put this down to experience or make a fuss? It does rather give the lie to their invoiced charges.JeremyH5 said:
