That depends if you're calling it 'vanilla' like a 'vanilla' Operating System, or whether you're calling it 'vanilla' like the most boring flavour of ice cream you can get.
If it's the latter, then I don't agree. If it's the former, I can almost see the point, but it still isn't technically true.

It's not vanilla to me under any of the above definitions. If I had a 4 cylinder E85, perhaps. But it's just not the case that it's vanilla. A lot of people aspire to even a 3.0si Coupe. It's just //M badge snobbery going on here.
Fair enough, it's the M. I'd quite like one as an upgrade one day - but for me I got my Coupe at the age of 24 by working fking hard for it. So for me, at my point in life compared to what most others are driving it sure as hell ain't vanilla.
I'm sorry if I mocked your spelling Cooper - nothing personal, you touched a nerve though.

Chill out lad my comment was tongue in cheek hence the smiley as I'm sure most of the others were.Fair enough, it's the M. Just a way of divvying up the Coupes....... nothing more.
BTW i wouldn't head over to the Z4-Forum they can get into some right debates on choices of colour, roof preference and obviously engine. i just sit back and am reassured that even though i pay a high rate in M tax i at least am with a car with the right roof configuration.

What about the guy who worked f**king hard to get his 4 cylinder e85? That won't be vanilla to him over the Eco box 5 door he could have bought.Fair enough, it's the M. I agree with Harris, I don't see any tangible reason why you would have this over an E46 M3. The M3 is more practical on a daily basis and in my opinion cooler. In Le Mans blue with the standard 18 inch wheels or the CS wheels the E46 M3 coupe in my eyes is one of the best looking M cars ever. Also this wheel and colour combo separates the drug dealers (black and optional 19inchers) combo and marks it's owner out as a-man-in-the-know.
The Z3 M Coupe though is one of the most under rated M cars ever. Fast and fantastic looking, no one will look at it and not have an opinion, it might not be to everyone's taste but thats what marks it out as cool because it sparks debate. Some will say swoopy, low, aggressive and probably the best car ever to be stuck behind in traffic with those wide rear wheels and quad exhausts. For me the key to an M cars looks is the stance, the relationship between car, wheel and road. The Z3 M Coupe pulls this off so well, it sits low and wide and it instantly looks rear wheel drive, it just cool and something M division has pulled off superbly with the lastest 1M Coupe. The Z4 M Coupe just looks like a miss match, almost like a Z4 roadster with an ill fitting temporary hard top. This is a shame because the hardware underneath is proper M. Sadly the Z3 has it licked in terms of style and M3 has it licked in practicality, although if its a drift car you're after .......

Also the Z3M is a far tricker customer to drive fast than a Z4M as its very old tech.

That's great. In your opinion, an M3 is cooler so you can buy one of those. People who don't need the practicality and in whose opinion the Z4M is cooler can buy a Z4M instead if they choose to.Everyone can be happy. There's a place for both. They have different things to offer.

(Although i had the windows down wishing the roof went down as well)If I used it as an everyday car then I would have considered the coupe but I am such a fan of open top motoring and it isn't my everyday car, the noise is sublime with the roof down, I love it.
