Is anyone bored with EVO magazine recently?

Modern Classics is currently where it's at in magazine world, as far as I'm concerned.
Agreed, it's the only mag I'm buying at the moment (just wish I could find my Edition One copy, as they're going for decent money on ebay!).s m said:
I was looking at the site below.

Surprised to see Octane went up 3% ( and What Car ) whereas EVO dropped 15%.
CAR lost 3% and Top gear 8%
It does look increasingly like Trott jumped before he was pushedhttp://www.pressgazette.co.uk/full-2015-mag-abcs-b...

In 2010 (just after he joined) evo circulation was 66,600).
Whilst one could argue that this drop mirrors the wider magazine industry dealing with the challenges of digital the fact that Octane is growing would seem to dispel that myth. You could always argue that Octane appeals to an older reader less willing to embrace digital but the value of some of the cars would suggest that it's readership is quite tech savvy
Ultimately, a fiver is nothing in the big scheme of things and like others i stopped buying it simply because the articles no longer interested me..far too much 'padding' with articles on lifestyle stuff which didnt seem relevant
It's sad but it does seem evo is in a death spiral, reduced sales must mean less advertisers are willing to pay. Add to that the loss of Catchpole and Bovingdon and I would suggest the prognosis is bleak

Hasn't Trott gone to McLaren Automotive to do their online stuff?
I'm not surprised that Octane is gaining, it's a nicely balanced read. Evo % to Octane % is down but what are the numbers?
If you look at the link it says they both sold about 40,000 copies ( 2015 figures so might have changed recently )I'm not surprised that Octane is gaining, it's a nicely balanced read. Evo % to Octane % is down but what are the numbers?
Which quite surprises me as EVO seems to be more 'heavily stocked' round here than Octane...even on the days new mags come in so before any have gone out for sale.
Maybe it's different in the more affluent South?

I subscribed to evo from the start but lost the plot with them a couple of years ago, it had become a paraody of a car mag in many ways and seemed to be more about lifestyle than cars. The preponderance of Queefisms got to me too.
I recently had a look at the ecoty edition. The conclusions didn't match the content and the whole thing was just poor and if anything, it is worse than it was when I binned it originally, so unless something radical changes, that's it for me
Has anyone got any good suggestions?

I still subscribe, but mostly out of a) momentum / apathy and b) because of the superb photography. I have to confess that the cars themselves interest me way less than they used to, especially since the majority of them seem to be well North of £100k
Edit: If I were to cancel my subscription, what would I read on the loo? That's where my copy of EVO lives - in the magazine rack in the bathroom.![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

I agree that they have lost their way in terms of content. I personally love magazines though.
The internet is losing its way for me in terms of content, now everything is just click bait rather than set out for a good user experience.
Personally, i look forward to reading a magazine. No loading, no scrolling - you can drink in the excellent photography and flick through to the content you want immediately. I'm 30 and quite 'techy', but for me magazines still are a great format. EVO just needs someone better at the helm.

Just cancelled my sub.
The magazine has gone a bit too far into "unaffordable metal" for a while now, and the loss of Catchpole, Jethro and Trott has tipped it for me.
Not sure what next - think I'll buy something different each month until (if?) I find something that strikes a chord.
The relaunched Performance Car ( not the original that grew from 'Hot Car' ) that ran a decade or so ago would have made a good alternative if it hadn't died/been killed. The magazine has gone a bit too far into "unaffordable metal" for a while now, and the loss of Catchpole, Jethro and Trott has tipped it for me.

That's me finally cancelled, end of an era, I think I'd subscribed since around issue 10 and bought from 1 onwards. I still have magazines coming until March due to my auto-renewal happening recently so if it turns around in that time I'll subscribe again.
Otherwise I'll just have to pay more attention to online content to get my fix on new cars etc

Same here, I've been a subscriber for @12 years and just cancelled yesterday. Just not much in the way of readable content now, the photography remains superb though. Otherwise I'll just have to pay more attention to online content to get my fix on new cars etc

Trott was the beginning of the end. The moment he joined I felt he was more a corporate shoo-in than a real car guy. I bet he manages operational issues competently, has enough corporate savvy to keep his bosses sweet, and knows just enough about the underlying product (cars!) to pass himself off as a motoring journo in a lifestyle mag. RIP MotorSport.
Funnily enough, cars have gone the same way: more anodyne, less character, more all-round competence and more about the numbers than the experience.
Agree ref the general sentiment on Mr Trott, but sad to see Mr Cathchpole leave - won't cancel sub quite yet, hopefully they'll re-invent themselves into something I prefer.
Have most of the Evo mags going back to issue 1, but as some have mentioned perhaps it's the new cars that are also the problem (paddles, turbos and focus on the numbers)...I'm more interested in 90's/00's stuff hence finding Modern Classics more my kind of mag at the mo'. (also prob as I "grew up with" cars of this golden(?) era)

As a subscriber I've got to agree with the general sentiments in this thread about the decline of the magazine. The photography is still superb but with the departure of Catchpole I think I'll cancel at the next renewal. Also, it's pretty poor that the departure of HC and others merit only a few very brief paragraphs at the side of the contents page; Trott hasn't even got the good grace to include a mention of this in his forward on the first page.
