The lunatics have taken over. I hated riding restricted motorbikes before I passed my test. It didn't feel safe riding at the ~70mph limit knowing that I couldn't accelerate if I needed to.
I don't see how restricted cars will be any better.

Well that's killed the new car market after 2022.

Some midweek musings

Paid a visit to the 'new' Caterham showroom at Gatwick this week, very impressive setup it must be said although I do miss the olde worlde showroom in the village of Caterham from the good ol' days. Many a happy memory of the old place however my attention was grabbed by the jugular with what was, in my opinion, one of the nicest looking/specced 7s I have seen (picture doesn't do it justice)......

I had an interesting evening last night, I popped out to see a friend and got a tour of his neighbours car collection. No photos from me as I'm not sure he'd want them posted on a public forum.

However this is already out in public domain

They cant even make cars theft proof so I cant see how they will make this system robust.

Government doesn't earn any money of car thefts... they can earn a fortune off immediate speeding fines!

Not the greatest nor most exciting video in the world but for those that appreciate the retro rally road car vibe this is quite pleasant viewing...

Looking forward to the first legal challenge when a serious incident is caused because a speed limited car couldn't accelerate out of the way (even in the context of this "override" function).

On the plus side, I guess older cars will be more desirable.

On the plus side, my snotty 996 should be able to beat lots of very expensive super cars on a spirited run biggrin

That looks fun!....... I fitted a pair of split Webers on a 1275GT once.

As the Weber/manifold combo was a tight fit and the Clubman had the small speedo stack. rather than the large central speedo of the regular Mini, I ended up cutting away the some of the bulkhead, this resulted in the ram pipes protruding into the cabin!

Fantastic induction roar, with the downside of spitting flames inside the car when cold or on the over run!

( I was young & too enthusiastic! smile )
laugh
My dad once told me a similar story of having a ride in a friend's mini who put a Weber carb on it and had had to cut a hole in the dash for the carb to protrude through. No story of flames but he said was bloody loud and bloody fast! thumbup

Jeez. I expect there will be a big backlash from both consumers and the industry - feels like some alarming overreach from which they'll have to pull back (won't be the first time). Fingers crossed anyway...

Great posting chaps thumbup

Love the Midget, still a semi affordable fun classic

On the subject of speed limiters etc. My daughter recently passed her test, her insurance is with Morethan and a telematics box is fitted, it was by far the cheapest insurance quote on a 2012 1.2 Polo but still circa £1k.

We recently received an email stating you have been observed speeding at 'xyz' over the limit on this road, time and date, if this occurs again we reserve the right to cancel the insurance as per clause blah blah.... Turns out it wasn't her but another family member driving it that day whistle

So now said person is basically banned themselves from driving it, can't be long before most insurance companies want this or you pay a hefty premium not to have it on all cars. Slowly but surely they are coming for us....

I mean what is the point of small cars if you can't thrash them once in a while ?

My Mum had a Mini Clubman back in the day. It usually wouldn't do more than 55 mph though as that's what the AA lorry was restricted too....

hehe
We had a naturally aspirated diesel ute on the farm I grew up on and it could only do about 50mph on its own. It once did 60mph with a good tailwind. biggrin
