RE: Toyota GR86 UK pricing confirmed

I did find their service pricing a bit much, mind. £250 minor, £400 major. And that's due to go up soon. Nothing in the grand scheme of sporty stuff, but my i30N is £150/£250 a time.
You haven't seen Hondas price list for a while then £328 for someone to look at a Jazz! £352 for 8 Iridium Spark Plugs!Congrats to those who've put a deposit down and well done for putting your money where your mouth is.
I, on the other hand, have ummed and ahhed over this for a few days and given I'm in the middle of a house move it's probably not the most sensible idea. That may change however as I've just stuck an application in for a new job, maybe a shiny new sports car will be my celebratory treat.

I am incredibly tempted by this car for totally pointless and selfish reasons. I can probably afford it but:
- I already have 2 fun cars and no time to drive them
- I don't want to sell any cars to add a GR86
- Without having ever driven one part of me thinks "what if I don't gel with it?"
Realistically I should stop thinking of man maths and just let it go...
Happy for those enthusiasts who have taken the plunge though!

Well having made the decision to order one my next hurdle is getting my local dealer to even answer the phone! Thought I would do it right and make an appointment to speak to someone rather than just rock up and the option for sales just rings out, the one time someone did answer I told them I wanted an appointment to buy a car they cut me off, this doesn't inspire me with much confidence ☹️ Part of a big group so I suppose I was hoping for too much, it's a shame as it's only 10 minutes from home.
I’ve still not plucked up the courage to say I’m getting my order in next week, the rear bench folds so it’s not that impractical.. it also says it all that this thread has over 300 posts already and I can see it becoming even more popular once demo cars become available and the UK reviews come out. They’ve definitely addressed the previous gens issues as there’s pretty much no negativity surrounding the car.
I’m also thinking how likely are we to see such a car again?

This looks like a great sports car, but am I the only one that thinks £965 for any of the interesting colours is a bit of a **** take?
That's nothing compared to how much Alpine are asking for their interesting colours (although have I to admit, some of their colours are a lot more interesting)Edited by carbonate on Thursday 7th April 22:29
This car is the end of the line. RWD,manuals with screaming 7500rpm are not long for this world. Given two years of limited production and the fact it's easy to tune this thing to 280bhp with a £4000 turbo kit there's never not going to be a strong market for this as it passes through the phases of new buyers/new buss, then enthusiasts who couldn't afford £30k/were buying a house ar the wrong time, then the tuners and modifier brigade, then it hits a price floor as some are crashed on tracks or blown up by 400bhp nitros kits and then eventually they become iconic classics.
Glacial depreciation. Low running costs. Toyota reliability.
Win win win.

Have you bought a new car in recent years? That’s not even that bad nowadays.
In the past 4 years I have bought 4 new cars and may be ordering another soon. All of them cost between £500-£600 for metallic paint. In the U.S the two blues are free, there are 5 free paint choices. The only cost option paint is pearl white and red at $425. Add VAT and that converts to £390.
I thought Toyota was a reasonable company but at the very least the U.K marketing department thinks it can take the proverbial charging £965 for paint that costs nothing in the U.S.

America seem to get all the fun Japanese cars at the moment, I was gutted when the 400Z didn’t come here and now the GR Corolla, a sign of things to come and it’s why I’m jumping on the GR86.

Well the premium spec car stateside is $32,000 which converts to £24500 in sterling. We always get pumped here so it’s not a surprise when we get charged more for paint.

I don't want to drag the thread seriously off course but the U.S price doesn't include sales tax. Add 20% VAT and the very expensive first year U.K road tax and the price of the car looks good value.America seem to get all the fun Japanese cars at the moment, I was gutted when the 400Z didn’t come here and now the GR Corolla, a sign of things to come and it’s why I’m jumping on the GR86.

Metallic is around £600 for the GR86 too. It's the pearlescent paints that are £900+. Expensive yes but then the UK car is around £3k less than I expected as I thought we'd be getting a base level one for £30k, not premium spec. Edited by Unwize on Friday 8th April 07:38
