The whole BMW stand at Goodwood demonstrated their chosen demographics. Other manufacturers had references to the future, the environment, design and engineering. BMW had blaring music, salespeople not wearing socks and seemed very popular with people who seem to think wearing a baseball cap backwards is still the height of fashion.

I wouldn’t say all cars are ridiculously priced, but if we’re talking about the M3 Touring’s rivals they are also ridiculously priced IMO.
If the RS4 was priced less ridiculously then it would be cheaper than a RS3. And in which case the RS3 would need to be cheaper at perhaps the price of a S3 etc etc

You're therefore actually saying that all cars are ridiculously priced when the reality is that they are priced to sell. And if they don't then they are discounted, which at the moment isn't happening much, is it?

Some mainstream petrol and diesel cars are being discounted near us; a former work colleague has just bought a new Focus at well under list and his daughter a Mini with a similar discount. I’ve no idea whether this applies elsewhere in the country however.

Fair enough, can't really compare a MINI or a Focus to a new M3 estate though when thinking about price.

Used car prices do appear to be creeping down very slowly, but remain significantly higher than two years ago.

Absolutely. We got a 22% discount on the Kia last year even though supply issues were probabky at the peak.

Price is simply the result of the balance between supply and demand in a free market economy.

BMW will not be discounting until they need to, which means it is priced to sell at transaction prices, whether this is at 0% discount or 20% discount. Hence the fact that the price is not ridiculous, it is set with basic but careful yield management in mind.

Given how many buckets of brilliant this is, you have to wonder why when the German manufacturers have been playing niche copy cat for years, BMW have only filled this gap now.

A set of lighter Coloured CS wheels would set that off lovely.

Undoubtedly another piece of brilliant engineering from BMW. And an M3 Touring is not before time. Looks great, until I reach the front...very subjective, but its hideous. It will surely sell, but not to me - I'll stick with my E63S.

I'd have one coloured the same as the main photo, black and gold is always a favourite, a nice choice too make out of the other players in this class, for me I'd have the 3 series. Just one thing, as a family centric car, surely there must be a mounting system for a bike rack.

Amazing performance

Ridiculous price

Awful buck-toothed front and prolapsed rear
Hmm.i wonder is this a better buy than say a Merc E63S or even the RS6?

Different markets, surely?

If you have three kids I’m guessing this won’t cut it, whereas an E63 or RS6 might.

Sounds like you're describing the people with the money who actually can afford it. I'd say that's pretty good business sense and clearly BMW know what they're doing given the record sales worldwide.

If you don't like their chosen demographics, well, I guess the car is not for you then?

Am I the only one that still wished for an E46 M3 CSL Touring?

I think the that nose on an estate is more acceptable. Unlike a coupe, t’s not a body shape normally designed above all else to look beautiful.

The estate reminds me of being attracted to a person, when viewing them from behind, then realising when they turn around………

How about then…..
If the rear was also hit with the same stick, it would even up the front / rear aesthetic?
If you spec the arse like the FOS safety car, then people with mouth WTF as you arrive and leave smile

The best performance estate on the market for under £100k. It's beautiful inside and out. A true sports car in estate clothing.

Fair enough. The buckets are an option anyway.
