Out of budget, but I suspect it will free-fall nicely into budget in a few years as they must be a hard sell:
Big fat V6 electric everything and a rear arm rest of dreams all while being presumably quite reliable ?

I'm starting to thing a post-facelift E500 W211 S211 is the car for me - I'm guessing these will be out of my budget for a while though. Any lesses engine doesn't appeal as I need to scratch the V8 itch.
Saying that, I am reconsidering the family battle-wagon plan as a decent VW Caravelle is looking like silly money - a same age/condition 7 seat SUV will be half the price and this frees up more barge budget for me....
If you’re after an S211 with the facelift and V8 you’ll be waiting a long time, there are so few around. Back in the day when I went to my office in Birmingham, I would sometimes follow on my journey home a facelift S211 E500 Sport in black with see through glass all round. He’s a Villa fan, judging by the plate, and lives on a 1960s development which is a no through road about 3 miles from my house. If I were to follow him into the development it would be classed as stalking, but hey, they’re rare so surely acceptable!?Saying that, I am reconsidering the family battle-wagon plan as a decent VW Caravelle is looking like silly money - a same age/condition 7 seat SUV will be half the price and this frees up more barge budget for me....
I'm pretty sure sales of the 5.5litre s211 in the UK didn't get past single figures. Someone on here had a nice tealite blue elegance model.

And how do I find out if a 350 engine is the dodgy one? Is there an online VIN checker or summat?
Engines with serial numbers higher than these are fine:
M272 Engine Serial No. 2729..30 468993
M273 Engine Serial No. 2739..30 088611
Here's a Merc 350 at £3k with nicer clothes. Low miles and tax too. CLS.

5.5 in thread too. None of this practicality stuff here!

Would this be a V6? I don’t mind the colour combo. Mileage and spec seem pretty good.

Yes. I think facelift petrol 350s were v6. I thought the 350 petrol was v6 prior to facelift too.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202...
From memory for diesels all facelift 320s were the v6. Also some V6s in the last year before facelift, late 55 plates I think.
One benefit of post facelift is move from SBC brakes.

As long as I have 5 usable seats that’s as practical as it gets.

Still a three-figure haggle from top thread, but... it looks very well presented to me, with a good detailing and wheel refurb, has a full BMW service history and is being sold by a BMW specialist with showroom photographs I find reassuring, calming and auspicious.

I currently run one of these as my daily driver. They do drive very nicely and seem to ride quite well despite the big wheels and sports suspension. Mine is on 130,000 miles now and I have had no major problems in the 12 months I have had it. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202...
The spec on the one advertised is not that great - no xenons, comfort seats, big roof or logic 7 hifi as far as I can see. None of this is deal breaking, but they are nice additions.
Nice to see the 211 getting some attention on the thread again. They tick a lot of boxes and in E500 guise they must make sense unless you really need the diesel.
Ref the balance shaft issues on the 350 petrol - r129 beat me to it with the engine codes; this is the only sure way of having some peace of mind. In general you could also assume the later the car the better.
I’d looked into the 350 issues extensively when considering an R230 SL350 which appeals over the 500 in that application as it ditches the ABC system and is a bit less nose heavy for a slightly more sporty steer. If you want more engine then you could just skip the 500 and dive in with an SL55
Anyway, is there some love for this facelift C215 - strong money but looks good:

Great colours. Passes the funeral test! I love it.

There's loads of online VIN checkers but the engine number will be on the V5, the build card and, er, the engine!

Thanks for that. I had a similar issue yesterday trying to establish if the Caravelle I was looking at had rear aircon or not. Though after a hidden pump in the rear started to make a sound like a pile driver it didn’t matter.Engines with serial numbers higher than these are fine:

We’re very lucky. Surely this is the only part of the world that finds 450,000 pence a touch on the high side for such a completely fabulous car.

You are of course right, Jim. It’s a ridiculous amount of car for relative buttons. It’s always an eye-opener when contributors in other countries relay the both the purchase and running costs elsewhere which puts the fortunate position the UK enjoys in perspective.Great colours. Passes the funeral test! I love it.
We are probably in the last 5 years or so when there will be such a plethora of large, petrol-powered barges that are still genuinely usable and attainable. No pressure then chaps.
Evening gentlemen, just playing 24 hour catch-up. Lots of interesting chat about the S211 and the V6 etc. If only I'd had this concise advice a couple of years ago when I was looking for my 320d replacement. Instead I had to do the leg work in reading up on reviews etc.
I've had my E320 nearly 2 years and as it's the facelift it's not got the SBC which was a big plus as I had to buy one for my SL. Ironically I'm interested in changing to a CLS so recent posts are of interest.
I've spotted one locally I like the look of its petrol but my diesel is poor on the Mpg so thinking it's not much of a hardship plus mileage is going to be lower going forward.
I'm contemplating trading the estate in against the CLS. It's 150k I'm third owner, recent rear air springs, brakes, services, many new parts. Running a treat though so worried I'll be trading good for bad and I can't be bothered with that hassle. Any ballpark on trade-in price? Cheers in advance.
Ps I don't yet know the engine number for the petrol CLS so that's number one check I need to do.

It’s the equivalent of running the tank on the fuel light which I see as a very poor care procedure. Luckily my care for cars and phones differ somewhat.
More like the range calculator saying 0!I avoid more because it's a pain in the arse when your phone dies, it doesn't really do any harm though.

Their coupe which I believe was also called Genesis looked the bomb. I was waiting for to hear they off they would start building them.
But it never happened...

Maybe just offering the customer a choice? Or reaching the eccentric few who are no longer served by the premium makers? I don't suppose Merc would sell more than 50 E450 Exclusives here each year if they chose to offer it, but I expect 45 of those 50 buyers don't go for an E220 diesel AMG-line, drug-edition, night-tat, black instead.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
