Jesus, that seller is deluded. £5250 with near as damn it 170k on the clock. That's worth £2000. The rest of his ebay listings make good reading. Equally overpriced tat.
If you could guarantee the reliability, it’d be worth c£3k to the right person.
But there have been a few folk asking silly money for fairly average looking E39 Sports in the last couple of years.

How do you guarantee the reliability though? Especially when the seller can't even be arsed to fix the parking sensors.

That’s why it isn’t.
IE - if it was ‘somehow’ a dead cert, it’d be worth running for 5 years for £3k or so.
But as there’s no guarantee’s, it’s not.

How reliable are those V8 engines and how economical are they? - years ago I had one of the very rare manual 530i Sports and according to the Autotrader stats the 535i doesn't appear to have that much more power, though hopefully it sounds better. Another thing, if I remember correctly, is that the V8s have ball steering rather than a normal hydraulic steering rack so don;t handle as well. Never driven one though.

E39 prices seem to have jumped during lockdown. 4 to 5k for high mileage ones looks pricey to me and is approaching the prices of spotless Japanese imports. My brothers touring is immaculate and cost 8k a couple of years ago which is a lot but it's like new and has zero rust / wear or miles ( appreciating that it's difficult to totally prove the mileage of these)

I don't like that M badge...

Or the crappy black paint on the wheels

Wonder if those supports are an official ///M product. Seems Jag owners aren't the only people who can spend £20 and ruin a nice car.

Merc E500 5.5 V8 from our fav NI barge dealer.

Does his sign say ‘Parc’ exchange welcome?
Funny you should say that I thought the same looking at their site last week. It's the weird font they use.

Regarding the wheels, whilst I really like them I'm not sure they suit the car. When it was for sale with them last year it was on the lovely 5 spoke AMG alloys. Suited it much better. Was then 2-3k more than now.
I really like the car but I'm not in market for it and would need to have a badge trim.

Mine was a 5301 Sports Touring, so I've not tried this flavour.

I had the same V8 in an E38, and whilst I didn't do mega miles, it was no trouble at all during my ownership.

That is simply stunning, whats it like to run/own one of this age, looking for an estate for as family car, ideally something reliable but something interesting and some fun to drive

Some of these cars remind me of 'dating' on Tinder; you go back every few months or a year because it's time for a change and you see a few of the same familiar faces doing the rounds over and over, with the same photos you first saw in 2015.
Ha, I was thinking that with the below, a £2.5k E500 popped up on my AT search. Then I remembered the towing hook...

Another customer of Stevie Wonder's paint shop too, and that rear bumper is a right state.

I’m never sure of E39 values. What do we reckon a titan silver, 530i SE manual with some rare options and 193000 on the clock would be worth? Generally in very good nick. Not looking to sell, just curious...

Asking prices have risen across the board on a lot of ropey ste.

Selling prices, that's a different matter.

I for one as an E39 evangelist don't believe for one second they're rising in value, there are still far too many, with mileage increasing, and plenty to go wrong.

Reluctant sale it says. Reluctant to change the pics from the first time it was advertised 10 months ago.

I think that means the wife moaned about it during lockdown, so there's another half hearted effort to clear the drive.
