RE: Spotted: Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth

Mid-life crisis purchases will always artificially increase desirability of crappy old cars from the 80's
There's nothing artificial about any of it, that just makes no sense. People pay whatever they pay for something, just because you don't agree with their reasons or motives doesn't make it artificial.630bhp said:
He is talking about performance wise, not looks! The RS500 might be a 'classic' and a schoolboy's dream car but sadly, when compared to modern cars, it's actual on-road performance is not that impressive.
It's about so much more than numbers though, and you just don't seem to get that. It's the sort of thing that makes a real petrolhead dream of a Lancia Delta Integrale, despite knowing that a hot Mini Cooper would trouble it in standard tune. Same here, the Sierra Cosworth is awesome. The mk2 Focus RS is just a Focus with some questionable bodykit, a mildly interesting blown 5 and the Revoknuckle bit. It's nothing special; it's not a Cosworth. Baryonyx said:

Based on what, I am kind of playing devils advocate here, the Focus RS would utterly destroy a Cosworth, RS500 or otherwise in every appreciable measure (standard cars), is it the fact it is new or the fact it is front wheel drive ?
No, the Focus can't beat the Sierra Cosworth on one key element: coolness. One is a tarted up FWD shopping hatch with a dismal McDonald's car park matte black paint job, the other is a Sierra Cosworth. The mk1 RS focus are rare on the roads but i don't get flashed, thumbs up, and people coming up to me in the petrol station asking about it or the famous "my mate had one of them" like i do in the 500! it turns heads wherever it does with out question.

None of the homologation specials that are similar and were out at that time, be it RS500, Merc 190E Evolution 2 or BMW Evolution Sport have performance that is "impressive" these days for petrol heads. They only do 153-155ish flat out and reach 100 in about the same time or very slightly quicker than an E46 BMW 330 which you can buy for 2k..............
This really isn't the reason people will pay 40k/50k upwards for one in excellent condition.

I bet the guy who bought the £15 million 1962 GTO doesn't particularly care that a 5k E36 M3 could have him off the lights.
Most of these 80s homologation specials will be bought by people are older and who perhaps wanted one when they were young but couldn't afford them or whatever. I don't know many 20 year olds with an EVO Sport or RS500.

Lol so a cossie isn't just an old sierra with an old pinto used for years and years with a 16v head plonked on it And some tatty kit bolted on the outside,
I like cossies but you have just summed up the focus rs in exactly the same fashion as to what a sierra cosworth is,
They are both production cars a sierra cosworth is no more trick than a focus rs is it really ? The only difference is which wheels are driven, there both family cars with a bit of oomph

Amazing how vauxhall managed it with a wobbly Astra gte cavalier gsi
Vectra and pre btcc with vivas and magnums,
Alfa with a 155
Chevrolet with the cruze
Seat with a diesel Leon,
Etc etc etc
Sierra cosworth great car by all means
But it is what it is ;0)
Exactly, many of them are based on humdrum cars Vectra and pre btcc with vivas and magnums,
Alfa with a 155
Chevrolet with the cruze
Seat with a diesel Leon,
Etc etc etc
Sierra cosworth great car by all means
But it is what it is ;0)
Well done you have finally cracked it sm
;0)
The price on any of these types of car depend solely on nostalgia and how deep your pocket is, they all have appeal some more to others,
Would I pay £65k for a sierra no chance,
Ask me again when I have 40 million in the bank I'm sure I might possibly do something stupid and purchase 1,
;0)
