I really don't get the Facebook login thing. Why not just have a standard login to the website process, like everyone else?

That said, I've created my account and have enjoyed some of the content so far. There was a good piece about the Veyron/Chiron by Bovingdon posted yesterday.

I've only used my Android phone to view the app so far. Why can't I view videos in landscape mode properly? When I rotate the phone it squashes the video and looks pants - anyone else?

It's daft how you can't change your profile picture either. What if I don't want to use the same picture in my FB and DriveTribe profile?

Good idea but it's definitely flawed. Early days though, I guess.

Single sign On makes a lot of things easier. They could have gone for a Google account login instead but more people have a facebook login.

I fully expect that either at a certain number of followers or for a annual fee you'll eventually be offered much more customization of your profile.

First impression is that it's got potential. Seems like it's aiming to be a Car Throttle for grown ups.

Few criticisms are that despite the fact it won't load properly on my phone's web browser, the desktop site looks like I'm viewing a mobile version. The 'news feed' only uses the centre 1/3 of the screen, just seems daft not to use all of it and make the pictures, vids and article previews bigger. Other than that the sound quality on the video player seems a bit crap, Henry Catchpole's voice over on the Sharkwerks vid sounds like it was recorded in the back of the hire car in the airport car park and the engine notes sound quite flat.

All in, I'll keep using it for now, if only for Bovingdon and Catchpole.

Some of the functionality needs work, you have to download vids then upload them if you want thumbnails to show but as a release 1.0, it's ok.

I've created an M5 tribe for anybody who is interested:

https://www.drivetribe.com/t/JDeykFWPRNmX97m6Nozsf...

I've owned two of them, written about them too in BMW Car Magazine. Looking for the tribe to be the M5 board on the site, including buyers guides and so on. Have all the info to cover that off fairly effectively smile

Also created a 140 Series Mercedes tribe, again from personal (and expensive) experience. So please do join if you have an interest:

https://www.drivetribe.com/t/SBlWLPutQNicfA8po6ECM...

Both tribes are public, of course.

Edit - Oh, and something a bit more generic. What is still on your bucket list?

Obviously the Catchpoles of this world are paid for this, but what incentive is there for a normal person to create a tribe and generate content?

Nothing other than the enjoyment of a crowd of people sharing content you enjoy. It's a media platform for blogging text, photos and videos. It's certainly not a discussion platform like PH.

I think perhaps the relevant point is that the content is free to consume, and unrewarded when you do submit it. But I suspect they will start to market the content in due course, and then make money from a platform which otherwise doesn't appear to have a revenue stream.

The HSV tribe now has over 500 members and still climbing! I am also very surprised at all the positive feedback from my first article and have had calls for the next instalment! Gonna have to think about what to write next.

So Bovingdon already published two excellent videos. What's the other person doing? Catching poles?

What did he post up just out of interest?

For the professional writers on there I assume it will give them invites to drive new cars from the manufacturers although not the normal "print press"

I get the feeling there might be an awful lot of chaff to go with the wheat in the long run and a lot of tribes will lay dormant after a while.

Also, any naked ladies started appearing yet draped over cars? Don't pinch my idea if not.....

wink

are "you" able to post relevant stuff to other people's tribes ??

I get the feeling drivetribe and people signing up have missed the point and use of it...

instead of "everyone" creating their own tribe, i understood it was to be that the tribe leader (journo / industry professional etc etc.. ) would create a tribe based upon their knowledge and produce content for people to consume... at the moment it appears everyone has just created their own "page" ..

It's a bit of both really.

The guys with a big pull Like you C,H&M's have tribes with the settings set so only they can post content. Everyone else can Bump (like) it, Comment on it or Repost it to another tribe of which they are a member.

The other option is for an Open Tribe, for want of a better description. With these you're the tribe leader but anyone can post content on your tribe be that pictures, videos or articles they write. Anyone who is a member of your tribe can also repost content from other tribes onto your tribe.

Hope that kinda make sense. Essentially the big names Tribes will remain chaff free as it's only their content you'll see. The small man with no reputation really needs others to add content to an Open Tribe to make it work otherwise it'll just be ignored.

Wha I suspect will happen is a bazillion tribes will be created many of which will be duplicates of each other. Over time only those tribes which continue to generate content will be followed as they rise to the top of the search engine, dormant ones will drop off the radar.

I really like the concept but there's a few things missing in my opinion. You can't tag someone in a post which is annoying. I've seen a few friends cars posted up and wanted to bring their attention to it (in a positive way) but other than a screen shot in a WhatsApp I've got no way of doing it. The other thing is the app has much less functionality than the website which is a bit rubbish as I suspect most of their traffic will be mobile based. I wonder if this is because the app is still being developed but they had to get it out sooner rather than later.

Unless they drive out all the people spamming every other tribe/person with 'JOIN MY TRIBE!!!111one' and consolidate the tribes down so there's one covering subject range instead of a range covering one subject, then it's just going to turn into a complete mess.

(He says, after spending ten minutes working out how best to start a tribe called 'arse' wink )

The hysteria surrounding DriveTribe reminds him of when Google+ surfaced. It arrives, everyone thinks it's cool and wants to get involved, then you realise that it's only as good as the content provided by the account holder. Hence the poaching of evo staff etc.

This thread could be written about DriveTribe

Looks to be a bit like FB, but for those with OCD who feel the need to place everyone in a neat little circle.

I'd love an invite therefore if anyone has a spare going biggrin

Loving the interface, and a great way to "follow" people imho.

Circles work like a charm, now all I need is some more of my IRL friends to join (only have about 10 of them yet...)

I still don't get what it's for. It just doesn't seem to serve any useful function in my life. I haven't updated it in over a month because it just seemed pointless.

Same thoughts here. I just dont get it, take Porsche as a quick example - there are hundreds of related tribes. It's just a mess.
Just feels like car based twitter/instagram.
