Talking to the sales guy after, "you can't order one because the emissions testing hasn't been approved on this model. Also when you can it will be a diesel only" It transpires that ALL S cars above S3 will be diesel going forward.
I'm out
‘Sales guy’ talking porkies. New RS6 will have the 4.0 biturbo from the Panamera. There is no way Audi - or any German manufacturer - will be switching their performance cars to diesel. I'm out
Can’t decide if you are an idiot, a troll or an idiotic troll.

I was told today the S5 and S4 will be diesel using the same one in the sq5 by an Audi dealerCan’t decide if you are an idiot, a troll or an idiotic troll.

Did I mention RS?
Is that in the thread title?
Who's the idiot now ?

This is why they are going towards diesels.

This thread must be a wind-up.
I briefly had a Spec B Legacy, it was passable as a mode of transport but crap in terms of fit and finish. Not that fast either.

Had JDM Spec B and 3.0R both terrible on fuel, poor interior but great in bad weather.
I was hoping I could get back to that with a better interior with and S4.
Not to be

looks pretty fast to me (just need to learn how quick shift in a manual ) it will leave a 320D in its wake pretty easily
The Subaru is a good car and pretty fast if driven so. I don't think anyone would say that it was not faster than a 320D if driven in anger.looks pretty fast to me (just need to learn how quick shift in a manual ) it will leave a 320D in its wake pretty easily
I think what people mean is that in real world driving the BMW will be faster in most situations due to its much greater torque available from low revs.
Do you really drop the Subaru into third from sixth at motorway speeds all the time? If you rev it high enough you will get more power at the wheels than is possible in the 320D , however most people rarely drive them this way, the 320D driver will just be flooring it in the higher gear and the torque will be giving him more instant power, unless you are driving the Subaru constantly very high up its rev range.

You know a poster has low self esteem when they type in 'Subaru fire recall' into Google only after seeing one from BMW, the world's leading automotive manufacturer apparently. Tigger2050 said:

A 320D has impressive torque but not mid range, over taking for example - If the Beemer got slowed down on a motorway to 50 or 60 and a decent 6 or 8 pot petrol was ahead of it the derv would be left in its wake, sharpishI think what people mean is that in real world driving the BMW will be faster in most situations due to its much greater torque available from low revs.

Not RS not S line, just S.
Be it ragging it through town centre at 40+ in a 30 or up your arse in the overtaking lane on the MW/DC despite there being traffic ahead preventing progress. Had this on A12 at weekend.
I get that Audi dont so some cars in RS spec (i think?) but why are S cars often driven as if they have something to proove?
I’m an Audi S driver and I can tell you why... I’m a tw*t. Be it ragging it through town centre at 40+ in a 30 or up your arse in the overtaking lane on the MW/DC despite there being traffic ahead preventing progress. Had this on A12 at weekend.

Actually I'd have to disagree with you there! Surely any car with impressive torque will have a good mid-range? It won't usually have a good top-end will it?Years ago I flew up to the North East and one of the people I was having a business meeting with collected me from the hotel in his company Legacy 3.0R Spec B manual the next morning. I liked it, and on the way to our meeting he gunned it when he made an overtake, but I remember thinking that my BMW 123d would have done it just as quick.
The manual Legacy reportedly did 0-62 MPH in 6.9 seconds, my 123d was quoted as 7.1 seconds so not much different. But the 123d had a lower-geared diff than the 120d/320d to enhance the performance figures (as well as 2 turbos) so the mid-range was huge.
Torque peaked at 400 Nm, rather than the 297 Nm of the 3.0 Spec B!
Anyway I sold the 123d in 2014 and now have an E91 325i as a daily which has similar performance - maybe it's time to say I run it on winter tyres at this time of year!

Lets forget 0-60 figures. Outside of magazines, unless you are prepared to fry your clutch at each and every traffic light it's a meaningless stat. The example you put forward - 0.2 seconds difference. Takes me longer to blink nowadays and any "race" would be more dependant on the driver's reaction times than anything else.
I maintain my position; having owned a Spec B Legacy I am therefore qualified to proclaim it as a total st-heap and must assume that Eric is trolling this thread.

The 123D twin turbo is a much faster car than the 320D and will beat the Subaru easily in most real world driving situations, it would only be beaten by a Subaru being flogged to its rev limit between every change.Years ago I flew up to the North East and one of the people I was having a business meeting with collected me from the hotel in his company Legacy 3.0R Spec B manual the next morning.
