I wonder how he ended up in that ditch like that, how fast was he going!
How do you know it had 150 bhp?

Could have been chipped.

Assumption, the mother of all evil.

You are being a hypocrite, we know nothing about what cause this accident so it is all speculation.

If I remember correctly from the thread your incident was entirely your fault and it was only luck that it didn't turn out alot worse.

You really are.

You're also putting a massive amount of speculation into a situation which we can only see the aftermath of. You've posted pictures of a randomly crashed BMW in order to prolong your nonsensical argument about RWD cars, particularly BMWs, and how nightmarishly bitey they are. Itself an extension of you getting caught out driving like a throbber on the motorway.

So what you gonna do? Trawl the internet for photos of binned motors to post on this thread?

What's your point?

Also, your last sentence above makes no sense with an exclamation mark. Try again.

Oh and your comment to Ferris, about it being internet. Well, yes, it is indeed. Well observed.

What's your point about the internet?

Thread started off with a Ferrari in a ditch, we all had a discussion about how it happened and how different drivetrain configurations affect driving in the rain, the debates got heated as they do on PH (I never get wound up though as I come here for fun in my spare time unlike others) the thread died off, I spotted a BMW in a ditch on Facebook, posted it here with a tongue in cheek comment and everyone started crying!

I want to say I won’t do it again but surely that defeats the purpose of an open public forum?

Aquaplaning, Its happened TWICE to me 1st time 2004 Dax Tojeiro (AC Cobra Replica).

Motorway, Straight road, I was in the outside lane, 55 to 60 mph pouring with rain, no roof on the car, hit one of those tarmac transition strips, next thing I knew I was going backwards at 55 mph and I was facing a sea of white headlights at rush hour!

I put my foot on the clutch and let the car drift backwards, the car then went from the outside lane quickly moving backwards into the middle lane, then the nearside lane and continued into the hard shoulder, only then did I slowly apply the brakes, the engine had stalled and I came to a stop, The car was undamaged! I had hit no one and no one had hit me, also I did not cause any third party accidents.
I sat there in the car facing the passing traffic frozen. Then a Van pulled up further along the hard shoulder, the driver came running back asking if I was OK, he said it was the best thing he had ever seen hehe After he left,I had the daunting task of trying to restart the car and turn it around in the hard shoulder,so I had to wait for a big gap in the traffic.
I got home soaked and then changed my underpants!

2nd time I was just over a year ago, not going fast, I entered a roundabout, turned the steering to exit roundabout and for a few seconds nothing happened and the car slid onto a grass central reservation smashing the front splitter. speed was under 30mph!
High torque cars, wide tires and surface water don't mix.

I take my hat off to Racing drivers who drive at Le mans in the rain, they must have cast Iron Underpants!

Clutching at straws now with the punctuation remarks. You’re trying very hard to make me look stupid when I don’t care. What’s funny about your attempt to making me look stupid is that you edited your original comment instead of responding to my perfectly reasonable response to make yourself look less stupid

It might be to make them look like a carbon fibre roof or a glass 'moon roof'. Others might do it to visually lower the car.

Thank you sir, this is what I’ve been trying to say for the past 2 years whenever the aqua planing topic gets mentioned. All of the BMW’s I’ve driven had those 3 things and when ever I mention it, I get virtually burned at the stake

I hadn't seen your reply when I edited it.

As for trying hard to make you look stupid...

Wait, you apparently don't care, because this is just the internet, yet by your own admission, you've spent two years thumping a particular tub.

I’m not referring to aqua planing, I’m referring to my comments about BMW’s being nervous on wet roads

Gotcha, thought you were back on aquaplaning as that keeps getting mentioned.

As for traction / grip issues, I know that I can plant my right foot right down in the wet and electronics cut in before I can get it sideways. To actually get it out of shape in normal driving takes some doing, unless I turn off the safety nets. Poor tyres would also have a big impact, but even then I have driven a BMW in the snow on ditchfinders and still managed to not crash.

Point being, drive to the conditions and a BMW is as docile and safe as anything else.

Edit: re-reading the quote that you replied to included a reference to severe wet weather understeer off a roundabout, which I think we can all agree is not a RWD- only problem. So really what we are saying here is fat tyres, regardless of which end is powered, are not good in the wet.

BMWs are st in the wet and st in the dry. They are not built to last and they are predominately driven by s, exactly like you sideways oddly enough, what a shocker.
